Te music education major and saxophonist spends hours of her day rehearsing, taking lessons, and having personal practice sessions. She also performs in the GVSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Jubilee Saxophone Quartet. Anna consistently works on perfecting her craft; however, as Grand Valley’s performing arts programs continue to grow, she has found herself working extra hard to acquire the resources critical to success. “Te community of performing artists at Grand


Valley are accustomed to working hard, which is incredible,” Anna says. “But, it is less than awesome when you’re fighting for resources with over 200 other students who are in the same boat as you.” Grand Valley President Tomas (Tom) Haas and his wife Marcia, recognized the need for additional

support for the performing arts. Tanks to their generosity, Anna, and students like her, will now have the resources they need to be successful. Tom and Marcia recently created an endowment in their name, which will provide enrichment activities for performing arts students, including competitions, talent showcases, master classes, and summer programs around the world. Te newly renovated Tomas J. and Marcia J. Haas Center for Performing Arts was also named in honor of the Haas’, to recognize their support for the programs housed in the center, which include music, music education, theatre, and dance. With their support, Anna can continue doing what she does best: performing. “Last year, my saxophone quartet, the Jubilee


Quartet, travelled to a regional competition at which we performed, and we hope to compete at the national level through the North American Saxophone
