INDUSTRY NEWS NEW LASER SCANNER

Leica Geosystems has launched the Leica ScanStation P50, its fastest and safest long-range 3D laser scanner. It combines the features of the P40 plus a longer-range scanning capability of more than 1km. Increasing users’ fl exibility to off er services in new markets, the rugged and versatile laser scanner enables professionals to 3D capture even at great distances with angular accuracy paired with low range noise and survey-grade dual-axis compensation. The ScanStation P50 opens new business opportunities for reality capture professionals, helping them to scan what was previously unreachable – such as big mine pits, long bridges and dams.

High-effi ciency vibrators

Martin Engineering has introduced a 12VDC electric vibrator that combines superior performance with long-lasting reliability to improve material fl ow in specialised hauling and distribution vehicles. Cougar MDC12-400/700 vibrators off er powerful bulk material movement for pump trucks, spreader trucks and volumetric mixer trucks. Able to be retrofi tted to most standard brackets, the high-effi ciency design uses less current and runs at a lower temperature, while retaining the same

New collaborative operations centre

A new ABB Ability Collaborative Operations Centre in Sweden will connect mining systems, software and services used by customers with ABB personnel to leverage the industry and informational expertise of both customers groups for higher overall operational effi ciency. The Västeråscenter will support ABB’s mining customers, and will coordinate with other ABB Collaborative Operations Centres around the world to provide expanded support and additional expertise. power as comparable models. The overall result is longer equipment life with lower operating expense and maintenance costs by reducing material buildup, slow unloading, clogging and bridging. Powered by a

high effi ciency 12VDC motor with a maximum draw of 13A, the oversized

permanent magnet design reduces demand on the vehicle’s electrical system. Drip-impregnated armature windings carry the current, and sealed bearings eliminate lubrication requirements.

PROTOTYPE EXCAVATOR WINS AWARD

Operations Centres, where sophisticated software performs advanced data analytics 24/7. Insights gained from this approach allow engineers to quickly diagnose potential issues, advise on preventive maintenance, and recommend measures to improve performance. ABB experts and customers work closely together, taking data- driven decisions in real time that increase operational and business performance.

Volvo Construction Equipment’s fully electric compact excavator has won an Intermat Innovation Award for its innovative design. The EX2 prototype delivers zero emissions, 10 times higher effi ciency, 10 times lower noise levels and reduced total cost of ownership. The excavator was recognised for its contribution towards progress in the construction industry. It is believed to be the world’s fi rst fully electric compact excavator prototype. At the current stage, the EX2 is still part of a research project and it is not commercially available.
