Vital checks to keep you safe

New laws mean that we will carry out an electrical safety check in all of our properties at least every five years.

This check covers electrical fixtures and fittings as well as any appliances we provide as part of your tenancy. As part of the visit, we have also been upgrading smoke alarm systems. We have now completed these important checks in nearly all of our properties.

Bringing former stable building back to life

A STABLE block which was home to dozens of working horses in Glasgow is to be turned into flats for mid-market rent. Our partners at GHA are set to refurbish the Bell Street Stables in the Merchant City, a category B-listed building. The building was once home to the horses which pulled Glasgow City Cleansing Department’s refuse collection carts, as well as the city’s police horses. The plans will create 52 flats and will involve

restoring the existing façade and see the original stable dividers from the upper floors transformed into cycle-storage areas. GHA’s Director of Regeneration, David

Fletcher, said: “This project will bring great quality, much-needed affordable homes to the city centre, while bringing new life to an historic Glasgow building. “We’re looking forward to embarking on our exciting plans to create modern, energy- efficient homes that fully respect and pay tribute to the building’s history.”

Work is expected to start on-site shortly. Once completed, Lowther Homes will let and manage these homes for mid-market rent. Work is also underway to refurbish the

former Govan Tram depot in Cessnock, Glasgow. The depot, which had lain empty since the 1990s, is being converted into 20 flats, also for mid-market rent. Most of the building’s original heritage features will be retained. These one, two and three bedroom flats are on schedule to be completed in May. If you’re interested in finding out more about our latest developments, just get in touch.

If you haven’t been able to arrange an appointment time, please get in touch as soon as possible to arrange a suitable time for us to come and complete these checks. We have appointments

available between 4pm and 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am and 4pm Saturday and Sunday as well as during normal working hours. We are also required by law to check all gas appliances in your home once a year. Please make sure you allow us access to do these checks which are vital to keep you safe.
