As the world-leading manufacturer of CCD sensors decided in 2015 to stop pro- ducing, no major new developments have been made to expand the CCD technol- ogy. CMOS technology on the other hand has experienced heavy investments. It now delivers even better image quality at much lower costs. In addition, the limited availability of CCD sensors is pushing this shift forward quickly, as affected cam- eras will shortly be discontinued.
