Website Thiswas about to be switched to a new Wordpress system. If the clerk could not manage the amount of work, the parish council would look for a volunteer with the necessary expertise. Annual parish meeting Itwas agreed not to invite the mayor or a speaker The clerk would organise catering and invitations.

Community warden Dawn Riach-Brown continued to carry outwelfare visits to the elderly and vulnerable. Police report No crimes had been reported. Planters The two planters had been placed at the corner of Ulcombe Road and Leeds Road. Cllr Knowleswas thanked for her input in placing these and planting them up into a colourful display. Coffee mornings The Village hall management commiee had agreed to hire the hall to the parish council for £7 an hour for the monthly coffee morning on the first Wednesday of the month, starting on May 3 from 10.15am to 11.45am. Verge An email had been received from a resident regarding the ownership of the verge at the corner of Leeds/Ulcombe Road and whowas maintaining it. The clerk informed the council that discussions with Kent Highways about ownership had proved inconclusive. Itwas agreed to contact Kent Highways again, and also SteveWaring, to see what the cost would be associated with mowing this during the summer months as an interim measure. Lier picking Itwas resolved to fund the cost of lier picking equipment if sufficient interest was shown in starting a local group. Annual parish meeting The village hall had been booked forWednesday, May 10. Refreshments would be served at 8pm in the commiee room before the meeting starting in the main hall at 8.45pm. Phone box The ShepherdsWay/ Heath Road surfacewas uneven following removal of the BT phone box.

to the PCSO areas in the borough.A new PCSO was expected to join in April. Various incidents, mainly at the King George V playing field, were discussed at length. The parish council is concerned about the use of catapults and air guns. PCSO Muir was investigating the possibility of a camera inWalnut Tree Avenue. The parish had wrien to the police, asking for a number of antisocial incidents to be regarded as serious maers.A reply was awaited. Community warden Theft from vehicles and shed burglaries had been reported. The warden was teaming up with the Coxheath community warden and PCSO to see if both parishes could work together on anti-social behaviour maers. Bins It was likely that the parish council would have to pay for the emptying of bins at the King George V playing field. ParkingA resident had complained about inconsiderate parking in Hanson Drive during school runs. Gardens An anonymous leer had been sent from concerned residents of Hubbards Lane about two gardens which were in a terrible state with various rubbish. It was understood that this had been taken forward by Golding Homes. Street names The parish council had suggested Iron Age Close and Roy Hood Way to the borough council for two new developments at Hubbards Lane. Developers had already suggested two names – types of cherries, as the land was originally a cherry orchard. These were Penny Close and Summersun Court. Well Street Regarding the proposed development at Forstal Lane in Coxheath parish, a planning application had not yet been submied. Terry McKeown, of Loose Amenities Association, spoke about an option ofWell Street being blocked off to through traffic. It was reported that some members of the public would be happy to accept the inconvenience of driving the long way round, via Stocke Lane, and that this would alleviate gridlock in the village of Loose.A resident inWell Street was trying to gather a petition and this would passed to the group to take forward. The chairman said that all residents in Loose needed to be consulted. Brooks Field shed Loose Amenities Association had agreed to the shed removal and would be given six months from the expiration of the lease to remove their equipment. It was likely that planning permission would be needed for the group to locate a store in the valley and also for the council to demolish the shed. The hole in the fence with Tylers would be filled with a close-boarded fence panel.


Nelestead


Flood group Tina Freedman reported that two projects had come from the meetings. The firstwas a proposal from the Environment Agency (EA) to address property resilience and to carry out a survey for the at risk properties. Tina asked how many propertieswere at risk in Nelestead – more than seven properties had flooded in 2013 – five on Hampstead Lane and two next toWateringbury bridge. In the second project, Arcadiswas looking at various measures on behalf of Maidstone Borough Council (MBC).


Arriva Resident Carol Funnell spoke about the changes to the Arriva bus timetable. The clerkwas to check if the 66 service would run through Nelestead. The parish council would contact neighbouring parishes affected by the changes and would contact Arriva. The chairman suggested that residents affected by the changes also wrote to Arriva to complain. Village hall Further fundraising events were being considered and the commiee was moving forward with the renovation of the kitchen. Dog bins The new comingle dog bin had been installed at the boom of the steps at the KGV Field. The clerkwas asked to place a notice on the parish council-owned bin to say “Lier only – no dogwaste”. Play surface The clerk had received quotes of £6,960 + vat and £7,200 + vat.A third quote had been requested but this had not yet arrived. Itwas agreed to accept the lower quote and the clerk would seek a start date for the work. The clerk had also sought a quote from All Seasons Grounds Maintenance to make good the areas where the wet pour had been removed andwas not being replaced. Cable ride The seat on the cable ride had been damaged again, twoweeks after it had been replaced. The clerk had enquired whether a dog-proof seatwas available but thiswas not an option. Playquest would fit a second-hand seat when they were next in the area. The clerk would monitor this and members suggested a sign asking people not to let their dogs chew the seat. Noticeboard The clerk had received the insurance claim of £500 from Ageas Insurance Company and the parish council would look at sites in Nelestead Green for a new noticeboard. The most obvious place would be the Hop Pole pub. Hedges and verges Cllr Salter said the footpath from the boom of Gibbs Hill through to Nelestead Green had been cleared and looked much beer. Defibrillator The chairman said the village hall commieewas happy to have a defibrillator at the village hall, but felt the best locationwas on the outsidewall.


Staplehurst


Parish surgery Subjects raisedwere the proposed Post Office relocation, and a reduced amount of amenity land associated with the land south of Henhurst Farm site in the MBC Local Plan. Clerk’s report The clerk thanked the deputy caretaker for covering for the village caretaker during his leave. He reported that draft year-end financial statementswere almost complete and thanked the retiring responsible finance officer for her guidance during the handover of duties to the deputy clerk. He also reported hewas arranging for servicing of the Stryker CCTV cameras. He had completed agreements for use of the library premises for parish surgeries and training. Hewas in continuing discussion with KCC about a funding agreement for the communitywarden’s Men’s Shed project. Further to the parish council’s decision to book two stalls at Staplehurst Fete, he asked councillors for ideas about the stalls’ content.
