Leiston Film Theatre News
I CAN’T recall a time when so many shiny new customers have graced us with their presence at Leiston Film Theatre – and from all around the area too – all of them proudly telling us “It’s our first time here” or “Our friends told us how nice it was at your cin- ema” subsequently praising our hospitality, comfort and not for- getting our fantastic new toilets following the film. For me person- ally, this is wonderful news and conveniently coincides with my celebrating 25 years at the venue later in May. So, on behalf of my brilliant team, thank you all for such lovely comments and we look forward to welcoming you to the Film Theatre again soon. May itself offers up a mixed
bunch of films, with something for everyone and a special half-term offer, to encourage families to the movies, to enjoy some great fam- ily films and saving money in the process. If you’re quick, you’ll be able to

catch Fast and Furious 8 (12A), which is on screen until May 4th, followed by Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy (one of our patrons) in the smash-hit British comedy Their Finest (12A) – on screen from Friday 5th May and telling of an aspiring screenwriter, who with makeshift cast and crew, work under fire to make a film to lift the nation’s flag- ging spirits and inspire America to join the Second World War. Our audiences for the National
Theatre events are growing steadi- ly and we will be presenting Jude Law in Obsession (15) on Thurs- day 11th May, broadcast live from the Barbican Theatre and Imelda Staunton in Who’s Afraid of Vir- ginia Woolf (12A) on Thursday

U3a is Swinging into May With
Plans For Summer And Beyond
18th May from the Harold Pinter Theatre, London. Tickets prices start from only £12.95 – that’s a huge saving on seat prices in com- parison elsewhere. Marvel fans will no doubt be
looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (12A), which bursts on to our screen, in 3D and 2D, from Friday 12th May and if, like me, you’ve seen the trailer for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant (15), you’ll be both excited and somewhat nervous about seeing the film. In this new nail-biting episode, playing at Leiston Film Theatre from Friday 19th May (second week of release), the crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actu- ally a dark, dangerous world with threats and creatures more horrific than they can imagine. I shall say no more, except to suggest that you perhaps bring somebody to cling on to! We had queues of eager cinema-
goers stretching along the High Street in April for Disney’s all- new Beauty and the Beast, which proved very, very popular. So much so, that we’re bringing it back for two days only – one of which will be a special sing-a- long version – on Friday 28th and
Now Serving Now Serving
Saturday 29th May at 5pm, with a 2-for-1 ticket offer (with voucher), so the entire family can enjoy this Disney blockbuster. The 2-for-1 offer also includes
the films Smurfs: The Lost Village (U) for three days only from Tues- day 30th May and DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby (U) for three days only from Friday 2nd June. Collect your 2-for-1 voucher from our box office, or look out for it on our Facebook and Twitter pages – or simply call us and we’ll email one to you! Why not copy the voucher and use it for all three films throughout the half term holidays? As if all this wasn’t enough, I’ll
be presenting 60 minutes of non- sense, magic and my traditional Punch and Judy show at the Film Theatre on Tuesday 30th May, with all seats priced at only £2.95. Tickets are selling well, so make sure you grab yours nice and early to be part of the fun. Looking ahead, Jim Broadbent
stars in The Sense of an Ending (15) – on screen for four days only from Friday 26th May and Brian Cox and Miranda Richardson appear in Churchill (PG) from Fri- day 23rd June (second week of release). As always, for our very latest
programme information and to book those fashionable premier seats, contact us on 01728 830549, or visit Suffolk’s oldest cinema’s home on the internet at: www.leis-
