1st XI Football Team - Champions of The Hampshire College’s 1B League

Sixth Form Inter-form Football The Sixth Form tutor group football competition finished with

one of the best finals of all time as last year’s victors RHB met the preceding winners CAB. An entertaining and action packed match with end to end football, played at a rapid pace was a fantastic advert for the game. With both teams giving 100%, tackles were firm but fair and aerial challenges extremely competitive, neither side prepared to give an inch.

The 1st XI were crowned champions of the Hampshire College’s 1B league. After achieving second place last year the team went one better and finished in top spot. Remarkably the team went throughout the league campaign without losing a single match. I would like to thank all the players for their hard work during the season.

Year 8 Dorset Schools Champions In an exciting final against a strong Gillingham School team

the Poole Grammar Year 8 team were victors and won the county cup. After going a goal down from a set piece, the team bounced back and earnt a deserved victory. Goals from Frankie Castillo-Macphearson and two from Marco Fowler meant we finished 3-1 winners. The team worked tirelessly and deserve great credit for the way they applied themselves. I would like to thank Mr. Powell and all the players for their hard work to achieve this success.

A 0-0 scoreline at half time reflected the resolute defending in evidence, Bryn Davies, Joe Palmer, Dan Watkinson and Dash Howarth particularly solid for their respective sides. With Tom Marsh and Dean Fields battling against Jaco Castillo- Macpherson and Alfie Russell, chances were created for both sides in a series of robust midfield displays. Despite Kieron Denty being blown over in the light wind when through on goal and George Heap going close it took until the second half for the deadlock to be broken. A CAB corner deep into the penalty area was missed by several defenders allowing George to poke home from close range.

Determined to mount a comeback RHB pushed forwards, Denty sliced wide yet again and James Elmes weaved his magic yet James Pringle stood tall in the CAB goal. With minutes left on the clock, a neat through ball saw Chris Todd- White, the school 3rd XI talismanic striker, utilise his pace to get behind the CAB defence and coolly slot the ball past the helpless Pringle. Cue a final few minutes of end to end exciting play and the arrival of the dreaded penalties.

With Dan ‘the cat’ Eades covering as much of the RHB goal as possible it was always going to be tough for CAB and with several penalties reminiscent of that of DM some years before (the match ball last seen by Tim Peake), RHB converted all three penalties and ran out 3-0 victors. According to the school statistician the last time a team recorded back to back tutor group football wins was CEM in 1989.

Congratulations to RHB on an excellent unbeaten campaign and retaining the trophy as well as CAB for providing an entertaining and competitive final.
