Seattle Hebrew Academy Dear Friends,
This noble undertaking that we share; the educating of our young Jewish people is often articulated as a grand effort aimed at preparation for their future. I believe that it is perhaps even more importantly viewed as an offering to them of a daily life of meaning. They are “living the dream” - the dream, I think that many of us harbor in our hearts – to spend the day with friends, to have time to offer Tefilah in earnest, to dedicate half of our day to Torah study while and pursuing our other interests and passions and curiousness for knowledge within a decidedly Jewish context.
Yes, living the dream. This idealized life we provide to our students with pronounced sacrifice is our intention. Let them at this early stage of life taste the joy of unadulterated study in an idealized setting – let them not only have a path towards a future but the present of the present.
It takes much intention and effort to bring this to life. Those who work on behalf of Jewish day school are owed our sincere appreciation and gratitude for their openhearted generosity. The public recognition is but a trifling of the indebtedness we rightly are obligated to give them.
Much thankfulness is to be expressed to Beryl and Barry Cohen, who are being awarded the Jack De Leon Award Leadership Award, even as Jack De Leon’s memory continues to serve as a blessing and inspiration to each of us.
May we continue to share hopes and dreams for the raising up a community of individuals engaged in the vibrant life of Torah.
