STRENGTHS OF THE CHILDREN’S LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT COURSE.

• 60% of the marks come from portfolio work (this used to be known as coursework or controlled assessment), so will benefit students who don’t like exams.

• The course content is useful preparation for adult life • The subject is interesting and practical.

• Students have the opportunity to take a virtual baby home for the weekend to give a taste of parenthood. This doesn’t count towards the final mark but it is fun to experience.

Each half term or so, a mother or father and their baby or child is invited into GMS to talk about their experiences.

PROGRESSION Many of our students wish to continue their studies in the 6th form with a Level 2 or 3 Early Years Course, which leads to employment in a nursery, pre-school or as a nanny. The Level 3 also offers progression to a university course to study a subject such as Early Years or primary teaching.
