Suffolk EU Alliance

TAKING the country forward. We are a recently formed local all-party group concerned about our future relationship with our long-term friends and allies in the European Union. The government plans to

open negotiations on the terms of our exit from the Union in March. We have, as yet, no idea

of the course the negotiations will take but are concerned at the impact on the British econo- my and on the bonds which bind the United Kingdom together. This group will be participat-

ing in the National March to Parliament in London on March 25th and invite all our support-

Nikki Hambling is a familiar face in our region, having run Orchid Fitness for the last 11 years. Joining Nikki is Kim Harkett and between them the ladies run a series of Pilates classes for all ages and abili- ties. With classes in Debenham,

Framlingham, Stradbroke and Huntingfield Nikki and Kim offer the benefits of Pilates to a wide audience. There are many reasons

why someone would begin a Pilates class. It might be for base fitness or perhaps part of the rehabilitation process fol- lowing an injury. Nikki explains that for many of her clients there is a strong social element too. Pilates classes are a peace-

ful time of stress relief and relaxation. In these modern times when we are under pressure to have the perfect house, family and career, a recurring message that Nikki and Kim hear is that it is nice to have an hour that is ‘my time’. Of course, there is more to

Pilates that simply relaxing. The ladies design classes for beginner, improver, interme- diate and advanced levels so clients are able to progress at their own speed and to a level where they are comfortable. Pilates strengthens and

maintains core muscle fitness through safe and effective exercise routines. Under the expert guidance of Nikki and Kim, clients are taught tech-

niques that have far reaching effects and benefits in every- day life. Clients talk about being

more aware of their posture having attended classes. With improved fitness, strength and posture comes increased confidence. The knock-on effect from a Pilates class is clear to see. The social aspect is not to be overlooked either. The classes are mixed sex and open to all ages. This makes for a great group dynamic. There are lots of different times and options for classes

of various abilities. If you are interested in joining a class or learning more about Pilates and Orchid Fitness please call 07899 888778 or visit www. orchidfitness.co.uk Anyone who has been to

one of the classes will know that Nikki is not one for sit- ting still. This year she cele- brates a landmark birthday and to mark the occasion she will be swimming 50 miles Butterfly over the course of the year - a mile a week.

Nikki used to swim competi- tively and has been an instruc- tor for many years, but 50 miles is still a very long way! The aim is to raise money for five charities: Poppy Appeal, Marie Curie, Heart Founda- tion, Anthony Nolan, and Tommy’s. Please follow Nik- ki’s blog which you can access via the Orchid Fitness website to follow her progress and to donate.

ers to join us. Transport by bus has been arranged, but we need an idea of numbers. Please con- tact us about transport at: tel. 01728 685560. Thereafter we are arranging a

morning meeting in Framling- ham, from 10am to 1pm, on Saturday 22nd April. This will be centred on the Market Place. There will be speakers and a question and answer session at the St Michael Rooms, and more informal discussion at the Café Continental in the United Free Church Hall. Both rooms and hall are close by. It will be an opportunity for

us all to take stock of the pres- ent state and likely outcome of the negotiations, and consider what our future strategy should be.

OUR spring production of ‘A day in the death of Joe Egg’ by Peter Nichols will be at the Framlingham College Theatre from Wednesday 12th to Satur- day 15th April, at 7.30pm each evening. The play is about a failing

schoolteacher, Brian and his wife Sheila, a couple who are bringing up their only child, Josephine, who suffers from cerebral palsy. Caring for her occupies almost every moment of their lives, and their marriage is feeling the strain. They rely on humour to try and cope with their circumstances. Their lives are complicated by friends Fred- die and Pam, and also by Brian’s mother, Grace, each of whom have their own theories about what would be best for the family. This award-winning play had its premiere at the Citizens’ The-

FADS

atre, Glasgow in 1967. Later that year it transferred to London and to Broadway in 1968. There have been several revivals including one in 2001 with Eddie Izzard playing the lead role of Brian. It has also been filmed twice, once in 1970 with Alan Bates and Janet Suzman playing the parents and again in 2002, for television, starring Eddie Izzard with Prunella Scales as the grandmother. Complex, gripping and har-

rowingly funny, the difficult subject matter of the play is han- dled in a sensitive and thought- provoking way. Tickets will be available at £8

(£7 concessions at any perfor- mance) from Monday 13th March at Framlingham Statio- ners, online at www.fadsweb. co.uk or by ringing 01728 663486.
