An Appeal to the Congregation
As you know, one of the Talmudic obligations for
which we are told one receives a reward both in this life and the next is “accompanying the dead for
burial”, a practice which also includes the mitzvah of taharah or ritually washing and preparing the body of the deceased for burial. Currently we have a small group of volunteers who perform this invaluable
function specifically for those who request cremation as a means of final repose, but since the number of volunteers in this regard is so small there is always a risk of unavailability, particularly during the holiday seasons. As a result, we are appealing to all those members of Bet Menorah – men and women – who would be willing to supplement the number of
volunteers in this regard. If you would be willing to be trained for and perform taharah, please submit your name to the office. Thank you in anticipation.
