The Grade II listed Tickled Trout at West Farleigh boasts some of the best Kentish architecture the county has to offer (get yourself along there and check out its chimney stacks!).
Built in 1541, it was first licensed as a pub in the mid-1700s and has been linked for generations to the ancient poacher’s art of sending trout into a trance by tickling their belly to steal them from the water.
Indeed, every nook and cranny tells a story.
As part of its emerging history, the beautiful pub underwent an impressive refurbishment at the end of 2015 thanks to new owner Hush Heath, which also runs the nearby vineyard at
Lower Rd, West Farleigh, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 0PE theTickled Trout
Staplehurst. This sensitive upgrade revealed more secrets, including stunning 16th century oak beams that adorn its six stylish en-suite boutique
bedrooms – offering a place to celebrate in style and to stay overnight.
The modern and stylish pub offers a fabulous fish-focused restaurant and a signature dish of locally-sourced smoked trout pate that will
delight when complimented by the comprehensive range of wines – including local labels – craft ales and ciders.
