Towing Tank Manager £36,309 - £45,954 per annum

We are looking for an engineer to manage the University’s new 140 metre towing tank which will provide a resource for teaching and research, together with a commercial service to industry.
This is
an opportunity to play an important role in commissioning a large new facility, and develop its operation as a world class venue for hydrodynamic testing on the new Boldrewood Campus.
The applications of the tank are expected to be wide ranging, but principally will concentrate on testing models of ships, yachts and renewable energy devices. Knowledge of towing tank operation and measurement systems therefore will be advantageous.
You will manage the facility development, bookings, project
operations, staff, budgets and marketing. You should have a degree in engineering or equivalent qualification/experience and ideally a sound understanding of the principles of hydrodynamic model testing, as you will act as a consultant for commercial customers who require technical support.
The work is expected to involve a significant and varied amount workshop activity, so it is essential that you can demonstrate a range of practical skills.
The facility will be an important resource for the experimental activities of the Wolfson Unit MTIA, a world renowned provider of ship model testing and other commercial services to the marine industry. You will work closely with Wolfson Unit engineers as well as with the teaching and research staff of the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment.
