Extraordinary Energy Savings In
Ordinary Buildings
limate change, carbon emissions
and sustainable technology have
become major factors in building
design and specification.
CGovernment targets to reduce
industrial carbon emissions by 20% before the
year 2020 have led to new thinking in the
installation of energy-efficient building systems.
The heating, cooling and electrical demand of
a building is responsible for 90% of its
environmental impact in terms of carbon
emissions, so if a building is to be considered
‘A-rated’ in the soon-to-be-introduced building
rating system it is essential that the heating and
cooling strategy is as efficient as possible.
The main challenge today is not developing new
technologies – there are plenty to choose from
already – but is getting manufacturers, architects
and government departments to work together
to show how practical, low-emission building
solutions can be created.
