“All the work that has been carried out over the year-long project has been undertaken with one major aim in mind – to provide high quality energy efficient measures for all the flats,” explained Gordon Clyne, operations director at Morris & Spottiswood. To achieve this however, River Clyde Homes recognised it needed to
replace the whole heating system and introduce a more efficient solution, along with improvements to the glazing and doors that would minimise air leakage in addition to the EWI. The association therefore specified triple-glazed windows to be fitted to
all flats as an essential upgrade. “I think that’s to date the most energy- efficient retrofit that we’ve done,” said project officer Joanna O’Rourke, “and that’s one of the first properties where we’ve installed triple glazing.” In addition, all lighting was changed to LED while security was boosted with new CCTV cameras. Perhaps the biggest improvement to tenants’ energy bills, as well as the
associations’ running costs, was achieved through the use of the new biomass heating system and plant room, which replaced the inefficient storage heaters. A low-emission, cost-effective centralised solution, the
