Dónall na Gealaí, literally translating as "Dónall of the moon", is the brainchild of Nick Greaves and Anne Sweeney. Anne explains the significance of the shop’s name; “Our son, Lorcan was both conceived and born at the new moon. During my pregnancy I noticed that he was particularly active around the times of the new and full moon. We wanted to give him a name that reflected his lunar connections and it was during the course of our research into a suitable name, we discovered Dónall na Gealaí. “
The Sweeney’s wanted to create the sort of shop that they themselves would like to find in Kildare, and soon realized that the town was not big enough to support a real specialist or 'niche' shop, and therefore required a broad a range of products. At the same time, the shop aims to provide a haven for those who are interested in spirituality, complementary health care and a more holistic approach to life. Since opening in May 2005, Dónall na Gealaí now stocks products that the Sweeney’s can personally recommend, such as the Findhorn Flower Essences, which fit perfectly with their philosophy. Over the years, the Sweeney’s have discovered what products their customers want, and the Findhorn Essences just happen to be one of Dónall na Gealaí’s best selling complementary lines.
Anne says; “Our top selling essences are Sacred Space and Psychic Protection, which are particularly in demand by a lot of our regular customers who are complementary therapists (Reiki practioners, Homeopaths, Reflexologists, Angel Therapy practitioners, Psychics to name but a few). Other popular essences include Sweet Dreams (we have one particular customer who has trouble sleeping anywhere other than at home but Sweet Dreams always works for her) and Life Force (which we use ourselves when we’re feeling a bit low and fatigued).” Dónall na Gealaí is a great shop with spirit, and well worth a visit when you are next in Kildare, Republic of Ireland.
