PRESIDENT'S Message

The More Things Change…

Good associations don’t find success by waiting for good things to happen. Too many varying factors make organizations like ours successful, and probably most importantly—experiences in the need to stay nimble.

These are indeed nimble times, but back when TXTA got its start in 1932—humble beginnings I’m sure—survival was simpler. Banding together for the greater good of the collective group was the goal. This of course took lots of work. A little luck never hurt either when it came to bringing a lot of original thinkers together.

Fast-forward to 2016 where we find ourselves staring down the throat of our 85th year of existence. I often think of how many companies have come and gone in that amount of time and why—the mergers, acquisitions or just outright shutting of doors.

One thing that really stands out when you look at the old black and white pictures that adorn the walls of our headquarters…is change. And how much of it there has been. Change is consistent through the many years; therefore we must continue to plan for it. The work the building committee has been doing over the last several years is a great example.

A successful organization of any kind needs the engagement of its members. This helps inspire confidence and gives assurance that it’s leadership is not just looking at next week or next month, but has next year and the years following in its sights.

How we get our members engaged can vary from year to year, but the initiative this fall going into the near future will be a simple one. We want you to recommit to getting involved, and bring your neighbor with you.

We want your time and talent. We hope every member of the association feels compelled to further engage but it should begin with those who are called to serve as a member of the TXTA Board of Directors. This is an incredibly important time for trucking. We have many legislative and regulatory items and your engagement will be even more critical to our success than it ever has been. We hope you will take this charge to get more involved—we need you!
