PRESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE
Nebraska Trucking Executive Committee
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD BOB CLARK Chief Carriers, Inc.
GREETINGS FROM LINCOLN!
It’s been another very busy few months at the Association with staff changes, the addition of new services, software changes and a busy legislative session. As always we are doing our best to represent the Nebraska Trucking industry’s interests and concerns in a wide variety of fronts. Tis year’s legislative session had a wide variety of challenges, with positive outcomes on everything we had on our watch list. While we still have a couple items like the state adoption of the CNG 2000 lb. weight exemption under study, it remains on our ‘want list’ for our early adopters of alternate fuel fleets. One of the highlights of the session was our continued support of finding financing methods to help improve our state’s infrastructure. With the passage of the legislation to create an Infrastructure Bank, using a portion of the money created by last session’s increase in our state’s fuel tax will help us move a number of projects ahead for completion. We truly appreciate all of our members that help with our grassroots efforts to talk to your Senators and help support these and other initiatives for trucking in Nebraska.
With our recent state election primary complete, we now know who will be competing for a number of open legislative seats. While it’s never been our policy to officially endorse candidates, we do highly encourage you to get to know the candidates in your legislative district’s races. Attend their informational meetings, ask questions, be a reliable resource to them for trucking/transportation issues or invite them to your office/shop to show them how important you are as a business investor and job creator in their district and our state. Most important? Vote and encourage your family, friends and employees to turn out in November to use their voice. Finally, please don’t hesitate to contact Dick Reiser, Sheila O’Connor or myself to let us know if there is a legislative concern in YOUR segment of the industry that is troubling you. Some issues can’t be resolved quickly or at all, for a number of reasons, but we can do our best to help develop a strategy for implementation or tell you why it may not be feasible.
New Services: Our new TSI Safety Consulting Services headed up by Director Doug Doncheski continues to grow in demand and popularity. We’ve already conducted a number of mock audits, safety score interventions and consulting sessions for our members across the state with exceptional results and happy outcomes. Meanwhile, our Truck Services phones are ringing off the wall with new customers calling for assistance on applying for new authorities as well as help on their IFTA and IRP reporting. I’m quite pleased that this continued growth comes primarily from happy clients that are referring us to their friends, as well as competitors. Please join me in congratulating the members of our Truck Services staff for their long hours and professionalism in getting the job done accurately, affordably and on an accessible basis for our many clients. If you know of anyone that needs assistance in the areas of tax payments or CSA compliance, please send them our way. Tanks!
Until next edition…
