Taeven is a great help at harvest time.
The purple cabbages were very tasty and added a nice colour contrast.
There is always interesting bugs and wildlife around. I laid down landscape fabric and
straw in between the beds. Looking back straw may not have been the most practical decision, but I really wanted that feeling under foot. The boys and I both loved it, being able to walk in the garden with bare feet and sit in the straw while we weeded or picked beans. The straw is still in good shape this year so I guess it wasn’t a horrible decision. “The transformation was amazing
from a garden that I couldn’t even get into for days after a rain to one that I could walk through happily in the middle of a downpour was fantas- tic. Also, with the smaller beds and companion planting, I found that there really wasn’t much need to weed after the plants matured. It was so much easier to maintain,” says Tania about her decision. The potager let her experiment with
growing upwards, and trellises abound- ed throughout the garden. Her favou- rite vegetables to grow are definitely
