scheme for China The new global Gold Anchor scheme was launched by the Marina Industries Association (MIA) in China at the Austrade networking function during the 2016 Shanghai Boat Show. This event was attended by a number of dignitaries, including: Karen Surmon, Australian Trade Commissioner Commercial Consul in Shanghai; Xinfa Yang, Chairman of the China Boat Industry & Trade Association; and Andrew Chapman, MIA Chairman. The occasion provided a platform for marina industry stakeholders to gain a better understanding of the Gold Anchor scheme and how it will improve the standard and global competitiveness of Chinese marinas.


There are currently four Gold Anchor Marinas in China. The three ‘Five Gold Anchor’ marinas are: Wuxi Taihu Shanshui Club and Marina, Serenity Marina and Nansha Marina. Qingdao Olympic Marina has four and a half Gold Anchors.


NOTICEBOARD Marina study


tour to Adriatic The Marina Industries Association (MIA) is conducting its second annual international study tour to the Adriatic coastline of Europe from 26-30 September. The four-day tour will travel from Venice North-East along the coast of Slovenia to the very picturesque Northern coast of Croatia and the Island of Krk. En route, the study tour will visit 12 marina, boatyard and dry stack facilities, mostly located in historic towns. The tour has been timed to allow participants to attend the Genoa International Boat Show. Full details are available on the MIA website: www.marinas.net.au


Resort development in Fiji


In Savusavu, Vanua Levu, Fiji, the fi rm of de Reus Architects has been retained to assist with master planning and develop design concepts for the Nawi Island Resort and Yacht Club spread over three private islands.


This residential resort will include a marina, a 25-room boutique hotel and a variety of family homes. The plan is to create a culturally responsible resort community that is designed to harmonise with the local environment.


Akuna Bay and The Spit have been offi cially recognised as ‘Fish Friendly Marinas’ Two more ‘Fish Friendly Marinas’


by the Marina Industries Association (MIA), joining d’Albora Marinas’ Nelson Bay and Rushcutters Bay marinas in demonstrating the Group’s strong commitment to best practice in environmental management.


The ‘Fish Friendly’ program is an information campaign and accreditation program, which focuses on marina fi sh habitats and was developed by the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries in collaboration with the MIA and the NSW Boating Industry Association.


The initiative is attached to MIA’s International Clean Marinas Program and is available to marinas across the Asia-Pacifi c region. Additional fi sh friendly criteria and an audit are requirements to achieve ‘Fish Friendly Marina’ accreditation.
