Nautilus Marine of Trenton named one of the top 10 distributors for Michigan Propellers. Continued from Page 1.

wave oven. In the far right bay is the fi rst Calvin

42, being fi nished off as a lobster boat for a local fi sherman. She is being built light and is probably coming out to the lobster races as her owner sold the boat he was racing last year fall. When asked for the particulars, Mike added, “He wants it as light as possible and I am not going to say anything more.” Out in the yard they have a Calvin Beal

44 and she is going to be fi nished off as a charter boat for a customer from Massa- chusetts. Mike also has another 44 sitting at S. W. Boatworks, which is coming to be fi nished off as a lobster boat. She will be powered with a 750-hp John Deere diesel. The next boat should go over in May and at least it will be a little warmer.

On Union Wharf in Portland Deter-

mination Marine is redoing a 42 Bruno & Stillman. She is being made into a tuna boat for a sportfi sherman from the North Shore of Massachusetts. First they stripped everything out of the boat leaving just the engine and gear. They are now getting ready to put in the interior, which will include two berths and head with shower down below. The galley will be up in the shelter as well as a day berth. They hope to have this one over mid-spring. Also in the shop is a BHM 31, which is

getting her hydraulics and wiring upgraded, new exhaust system, head fi nished, a galley and paint.

At John's Bay Boat Co. they were building a new 42-footer. I always enjoy stopping in at Riverside

Finestkind Boat Yard in Harpswell has been busy all winter. In one bay is a Young Brothers 35, SU-

SAN MARIAH, which is in to be repowered with a C9 Caterpillar. The owners are also replacing the shelter roof, hydraulics and doing cosmetics. In the main shop FINESTKIND I is in

to be repowered with a Cummins B series 210. They are also going to do her annual maintenance before being launched for her summer season, which is fast approaching. A Hinckley 48 was in and had her decks and hull painted. The Marine Trader, which has been in

the shop the last couple of years, is ready to have her windows put in. They are also working on her wiring and plumbing and the interior is being installed.

is nearing completion on the 32 foot steel Benford tug, which was built on the Great Lakes in 1991. This winter they added a bow thruster, new wiring, systems redone, and paint. She will go over in early May and regretfully her owner says she is for sale. Also keeping them busy this winter was

restoring several Boston Whalers from 11 to 21 feet in length. They have gained quite a reputation for doing this. In the shop the day I stopped in they were putting a rub-rail on the 13½ footer. They have also taken on the Metan Marine line, which produces several of the old Boston Whaler models.

Boat Yard in Newcastle, as they have a number of very interesting boats in their yard.

One of the main projects this winter was

on a 24 foot Phil Bolger designed wooden launch. She was in to be repowered with an electric 18-hp Elco engine. They also added 4D batteries. This is an interesting boat formally owned and kept in Boothbay Harbor for a number of years. At that time she was painted and her next owner opted to strip her and make some of her woodwork bright. Years ago they also added a canopy. She now resides in a boat house on Belgrade Lakes. A 27 foot Hodgdon powerboat spent

two months in the shop. She was built in 1950 and Paul Luke put a cabin on her. Last summer she grounded doing a lot of dam- age below the waterline. Repairs included frames, fl oors and planks. A folk boat was in and received a lot of new copper rivets. A boat from Boothbay Harbor, which

was designed by Bud McIntosh and built by Paul Rollins came in for repairs and cosmetics. Nautilus Marine is making new stanchion bases and a stern rail. A 24 foot Striper, built at the yard, was

just purchased by a local customer and he is having some upgrades done as well as her annual maintenance. Paul remembers when he was in eighth grade helping his father de- liver her to Rhode Island for her new owner. Thirteen years ago she returned for a major rebuild.

John’s Bay Boat Company in South

Bristol is working on a new 42 foot wooden pleasure boat they are building for a cus- tomer from Friendship. Presently they were putting on the house sides, getting ready to fi berglass the platform and installing the in- terior. She is powered with an 8.3 Cummins diesel. PAMELA B., from Beverly, MA, is up on the railway for repairs. She was built by Brad Story of Essex, MA of which he built three, one for each brother. Her engine is out and at Billings Diesel & Marine to be rebuilt. They are also replacing the aft fuel tank and doing her regular maintenance.

Clark Island Boat Works in St.

George will have several new boats ready for the water in the next few months. JACALWA is a Wesmac 46 being fi n-

ished for a lobster fi sherman from Yarmouth. She is powered with a C-18 1,000 and we will see her at several of the lobster boat races this year. Down below she has four berths, simple galley, and gear and hydraulic locker. She was scheduled to be launched the middle of April. In the next bay was another Wesmac 46,

powered with a C-18 1,000 hp Caterpillar. She was being fi nished out as a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Stonington. She will be done and over in early summer. In another bay is a Mussel Ridge 44,

which is a one-off . She is powered with a 900-Scania and is being fi nished off as a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Vinalhav- en. She will be launched sometimes this summer. A Mussel Ridge 46 is being fi nished as

a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Massa- chusetts. She will be powered with a French diesel engine.

Jeff is fi nishing out a Calvin 36 as a lob- ster boat for a local fi sherman. She will be powered with a 405 hp Cummins with a ZF 2:1 gear. They have completed the platform which has a 275 gallon fuel tank underneath and tankage for crates. She has a 14 inch hauler and down below just a V-berth and hydraulics locker. She will be going over mid-spring. Next in the shop will be an Osmond 37
