The 15-tonne rock breaking machine carried by

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has transported a 15-tonne part of a rock breaking machine for a mining customer between the Russian cities of Anapa and Murmansk.
VOLGA-DNEPR CARRIES 3-METRE “TEACUP” FOR MINING PROJECT IN RUSSIA
The delivery onboard one of the airline’s IL-76TD-90VD freighters was organised for the Russian mining and smelting company Norilsk Nickel, one of the largest producers of coloured and precious metals in the world. The machinery was destined for its affiliated mining company in the Murmansk region of northern Russia.
To load the three metre wide cargo, which resembled a giant teacup in shape,
Volga-Dnepr’s Engineering and Logistics experts transported special equipment from Ulyanovsk to Anapa, and organised cranes at the departure and arrival points to assist in loading and unloading. As part of the logistics solution provided by Volga-Dnepr, road transportation of the mining equipment was also arranged from Murmansk Airport to its final destination in the town of Zapolyarnyi, where the equipment was being put into operation.
DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING FOR 100 TONNES OF OIL AND GAS CARGO TO CHINA
Ruslan International also transported over 100 tonnes of oil and gas equipment from Milan, Italy to Qindao, China, to meet a tight delivery deadline for its customer, MP Holland, a freight forwarder based in the Netherlands.
The sheer weight of the load destined for Penglai Jutal Offshore Engineering Heavy Ind., Co. Ltd., as well as the short timescales involved, demanded the unique operating
capabilities of the An-124 freighter. Loading the cargo onto the aircraft at Malpensa Airport was a sizeable task. The consignment included two 31,200kg crates, which meant external loading cranes, specially designed for loading heavy cargo, were required to move them on and off the aircraft.
Alexander Gerasimov, Sales Executive of Ruslan International, said: “Cargoes of this size require specialist aircraft - only the An-124-100 is capable of moving such vast loads. Ruslan International’s strength is getting unwieldy items from A to B intact, and providing the expertise and equipment to complete difficult briefs quickly and efficiently.”
Sander Rothert, Operations Director and co-owner of MP Holland, added: “We are delighted that we were able to complete this mission in spite of challenges posed by the weight of the cargo, as well as time restrictions. Ruslan International really is the ideal carrier for a load of this type, and we are very grateful for their efficiency and professionalism throughout.”
