Hodgdon Yacht Services, the divi- sion of Hodgdon, in East Boothbay, has completed repair work on the 154-foot (46.9 meter) ketch ASOLARE, originally SCHEHERAZADE. She was designed by Bruce King, with interior designed by Winch Design and built by Hodgdon Yachts, who launched her in 2003. At the time, she was the largest cold-moulded yacht ever built. “As the original builders of ASOLARE, we are pleased that we were able to complete this important repair work,” said Timothy Hodgdon, President and CEO of Hodgdon. “The company’s connection to this boat - combined with our technical expertise - uniquely positioned us for the execution of this project.”
The work included replacement of the
mizzen mast, repairs to the aft cabin and deck areas, extensive maintenance to the electrical power, sea water, hydraulic and mechanical systems, and an upgrade to the computerized sail handling controls. All three of Hodgdon’s locations in Boothbay participated in the project, including its shipyard in East Boothbay, its marina at Wotten’s Wharf in Boothbay Harbor and its repair yard on Southport Island. “We at Hodgdon Yacht Services were excited to have a yacht of ASOLARE’s size and complexity to further advance our rep- utation for refi t and repair of Superyachts, having also completed a 15 month refi t of a 116-foot schooner earlier in the year,” said Sandy Spaulding, President of Hodgdon Yacht Services. “I also want to thank Carl Persak and Jeremy Wurmfeld of Persak & Wurmfeld who, as the owner’s representa- tives, worked closely with us to achieve the desired outcome.”
Washburn & Doughty also in East Boothbay has several tugs under construc- tion.
No. 115 is in the water and will be deliv- ered the middle of February; No. 116 is get- ting ready to be launched the end of March; Nos. 117 and 118 are under construction; and No. 119 is in the design phase. All of these are 93 foot Z drive tugs, powered with 6000 hp EMD diesel engines with Schottel drive units and are for Moran. No. 120 is also a 93 footer, but she will be powered with a Caterpillar diesel engine and she will be fi nished for Marine Towing of Tampa, Florida.
