Super Bowl Bound Carolina Panthers Claw Past Cardinals
BY JASMINE BLACKWELL Cam Newton and the Caro-
lina Panthers (17-1) demolished the Arizona Cardinals (14-4) 49-15 in the NFC Championship Game. They will advance to Super Bowl 50 where they will face Peyton Man- ning and the Denver Broncos (14-4), who knocked off the New England Patriots
in before the AFC Championship.
“I thought of this moment way this moment,” Cam Newton
said after leading the Carolina Pan- thers to a win in the NFC Champion- ship. “You’ve played it out so many times in your mind. When you run a touchdown, when you throw a touch- down, when you flip in the end zone – it’s kind of like that dream has now become the reality. It may be a surprise to so many people. That’s how I envisioned it in the dream.” “Super-Cam” was nothing short of
spectacular, as he has been for much of his MVP-caliber season. He completed 19 of 28 passes for 335 yards and ran for two touchdowns. He also dabbed, flew into the end-zone and posed like a superhero as fans shouted “M-V-P!” “He’s awesome,”
corner-
back Josh Norman said. “He put on his cape and he flew.” Newton helped the Panthers get
off to a quick start with a 24-7 lead at the half and they never let their foot off the gas. The offense was phenom- enal, but big plays on defense proved to be most effective in this game. Carolina’s defense stunted Ari-
zona’s top-ranked offense. Quar- terback Carson Palmer looked ex-
tremely uncomfortable in the pocket. Palmer finished with six turn-
overs, including four interceptions. He lost the ball twice on fumbles. The Panthers defense made Palmer look like an amateur as he com- mitted
turnover after turnover. “I kept digging us into a
hole that we couldn’t get out of,” Palmer said after the crushing de- feat. “We continued to fight, but it was just too much to overcome.”

“We are going to the Super

per Bowl appearance, hoping to fin- ish off his record-setting season by solidifying his status in
