On the road again...
OUR RV-ING TIMES
By June 2008, aft er a busy fall and spring taken up with our Airstream club activities, we were busy preparing to attend the WBCCI International Rally in Bozeman, Montana, where there were nearly a thousand trailers and motorhomes. We enjoyed two weeks of club activities and seminars on travel tips, trailer information and good camaraderie with our old and new friends. Following the International Rally on July 5th, we and three other trailers of
Airstreamers headed north, back into Canada and another adventure, destination this time was up to the Northwest Territories. We crossed into Canada from Montana at Del Bonita, Alberta, a very quiet border
crossing. (It must be extremely quiet there because the border inspector had to use a clip-board of questions to ask us!) On our travels over the years we’ve crossed the Canadian border through every province from BC to New Brunswick and never had a crossing like this one. Aſt er asking a lot of questions he fi nally welcomed us home. Our fi rst stop in Alberta was in Cardston and the highlight here was the Remington
Carriage Museum, a huge collection began by Don Remington in 1954, which now contains almost 300 carriages and wagons of every description. Now owned by the Alberta Government it is the largest collection of its kind in North America and well worth the time spent visiting it. Aſt er a two-night stay we headed to Cochrane, about 40km (25 miles) west of Calgary, where we attended the WBCCI Region 10 Rally. Region 10 of the WBCCI
includes member units from BC, Alberta/Saskatchewan, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, as well as Alaska, the Yukon and the NWT. It is the largest geographical region in the Airstream Club. Attended by members from each of the state and provincial units, this week-long session saw region business conducted, along with good meals and entertainment which included local talent, dinner theatre in Calgary, and tickets to the Calgary Stampede. T e next stop for our group was
Wetaskiwin, Alberta, where we visited the Reynolds-Alberta Museum of Transportation and Industry, which includes Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame and is of interest to anyone who likes anything mechanical: cars, trucks, tractors, planes and machinery, and more. T is was really a guy thing so our next stop was the West Edmonton Mall for the women in the group. With over 800 stores there was something for everyone in the World’s Largest Mall. Following three nights in Edmonton
we headed north into the Peace River country, staying in Peace River and High Level then crossing over the 60th parallel into the Northwest Territories. Although the weather was very mild the mosquitoes only seemed as big
