his month’s theme is True Wealth, and if you’re as inspired as I was reading Judith Fertig’s article True Wealth: Living a Life We Love is Real Afflu-
ence, then you very likely will feel your heart fill with gratitude for every little thing you have instead of wor- ry, regret and pining for the things you don’t have. The article put in perspective for me the richness of my life as it is (family, home, health, job I love, dreams, hobbies) even as I strive to make it better (vacations, work less, do more of what I love, reduce clutter/ items that have lost their meaning). There is even a Life Audit checklist included with
the article to help focus on the things that are important to us as we live our lives from where we are. This checklist encourages us to make time for the people and things that are important to us. For example, it’s common to say our health is important but often it takes a close call of some kind to help us actually take steps to safeguard it: eating healthier, exercising, stretching, walking, sitting less. The same could be said for the importance of family. We’re all familiar with
the parent who works every waking hour, often to provide all the things they think their family wants, only to miss that what their spouse and children really want is to spend more time with the well-intentioned but erroneous thinking parent/spouse. What I took from this article is confirmation of the ability to be happy now,
rather than “I’ll be happy when ________.” We all see how it happens when we reach the milestone and then are yearning for the next. I don’t even know if it’s happiness so much as contentment, gratitude and living in the moment. Clichés, I know, but wisdom nonetheless. What’s keeping you from your happiness in this moment? Is there something

you can do now that will get you one step closer? For me, it was finding a better balance with my time. I love what I do and one of the drawbacks of enjoying what you do (and being an entrepreneur) is not knowing when to stop as there is always more to do and usually just one person to do it. So, I’ve made the decision to reduce my networking even though I enjoy it a lot. I also took the time to make a list of activities that I find refreshing and to make time for at least one of them every day. My list includes gratitude journaling, spending time in nature, daily medita- tion, writing a letter or sending a card, walking, spending time in a museum or bookstore, planning a trip, scrapbook- ing/crafting.
What are the things that make you
glad to be alive? Are you making time for them in your life? Finally, one of the things I’m most
grateful for in this moment is you, dear reader! May you have multiple blessings bestowed upon you in this month best known for giving thanks. Thank you!
