Q. Hello I am building a house near Denia, Alicante, and I would like to know if it is possible, and not too expensive, to be all solar or part solar. At this moment I do not know, could you give me any advice?
A. Yes of course we can help you. Depending on what you want to spend, solar would be the best way to go for reducing your bills, but there are many systems on the market so it is hard to say without speaking to you face-to-face. But I would say on a new build always go for underfloor heating because that is definitely the way to go whether it is with solar, gas, oil, biofuel, or heat pump, you are working at a low temperature.
Q. I have a gas boiler which I wanted servicing. I contacted a plumber out of the paper, he came and told me aſt er one hour of work that it needed a part. He went away and aſt er five days returned to the house, again aſt er about another hour taking things apart, guess what, it’s needed another part. This has happened three times now and has cost me a lot of money. The boiler doesn’t even gives me hot water. Please can you help?
A. The best thing is always to get the name of the boiler then contact the company. They will send a technician who normally would carry all the parts and if not would you be able to get them very quickly (and not leave you without hot water).
This is how it works in Spain and you will find technicians to be a lot cheaper and quicker than somebody out of of the paper.
Q. I have just finished putting in a gas supply for my fire and cooker. My friend who lives near me told me to go to the Repsol depot in the town and they would give me some gas bottles. When they came to the house they said it was all wrong and until I get it changed I can’t have bottles.
A. Things with gas here are very diff erent (rules etc) and they are not trying to be diff icult. They want to ensure the installation is safe. You need somebody who is a registered gas installer in Spain and has the paperwork to pass installations.
