Steelers, coach Mike Tomlin agree to 2-year extension
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh
Steelers
and coach Mike Tomlin have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2018.
Financial terms of the deal announced Thursday were not disclosed. Tomlin is 82-46 with Pittsburgh since replacing Bill Cowher following the 2006 season. The Steelers have won one Super Bowl and appeared in another under Tomlin and are coming off an 11-5 mark and an AFC North title in 2014. Steelers President Art Rooney II called Tomlin "one of the top coaches" in the NFL. Tomlin calls his time with the Steelers a "wonderful experience." The Steelers report for training camp at Saint Vin- cent College on Saturday and open the preseason in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio on Aug. 9.
PITTSBORO, Ind. (AP) — Jeff Gordon felt right at home Thursday back in small-town Indiana. His parents, some of his longtime friends and even some of his former high school teachers were among hundreds of people lining the streets in Pitts- boro to celebrate Gordon as he wraps up his final full- time season in NASCAR. It was a fitting place for
Mayor says Toronto will decide 'very quickly' on Olympic bid
TORONTO (AP) — To- ronto Mayor John Tory says Canada's largest city will make a decision "very quickly" whether to bid for the 2024 Olympics. Tory did nothing to quash speculation that Toronto will bid and use the ongoing Pan American Games as a springboard, in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday.
Five cities have already
said they will bid: Boston; Budapest, Hungary; Ham- burg, Germany; Paris; Rome. "We have to
sit down
right after these games and prepare every bit of analysis — on the financ- es, on the benefits to the city, on the amount of pub- licity it will give us," Tory said.
Canada has spent about $2.5 billion Canadian ($2 billion) to organize the Pan
Am Games — the most ex- pensive in history — and has several Olympic-style venues in place. It has spent 10 times more than Winnipeg did to organize the 1999 Pan Am Games. Toronto is facing a tight deadline. Candidates must make an official bid with the International Olympic Committee by Sept. 15. "We don't have any

the biggest stop yet on his farewell tour.
Here, a short drive from Indianapolis Motor Speed- way, Gordon honed his rac- ing skills before he was old enough to obtain a driver's license. Here, he learned the importance of balanc- ing weekend races with daily life. And now, three days before driving in his final Brickyard 400, Gor- don came back to a commu-
nity full of tall corn stalks, endless farming fields and dozens of mementoes bear- ing his well-known No. 24 to thank his biggest fans. "This is very cool," Gor- don said after participat- ing in the short parade and brief awards ceremony. "Pittsboro is obviously very memorable to me because we lived here, raced out of here.
