President’s Column by Tom Estabrook, Estabrook’s Farm and Greenhouses, Inc.
MELNA President Tom Estabrook
Hello fellow MELNA members, I want to first thank all of you for attending our annual meeting with the MAA. Te show was a huge success! I also want to thank Don Sproul for all his hard work on the show for both of our associations. Our associations are on the move with a huge list of projects on our plate. MELNA is working on our new marketing
program called “plant something”. Please visit
www.plantsomething.org for more details. We will looking for sponsors to get this off the ground! If you would like to sponsor this program we would like to hear from you. Please email me at tom@
estabrooksonline.com. Estabrook’s is the first sponsor and we are looking for 7 others at a cost of 250.00-500.00 for sponsorship. Flower show is another hot topic in the market right now and I want to clear the air. MELNA has formed an exploratory committee to look into if MELNA should or could host a consumer show to help our association and members. Some of the
hurdles are location, financials, and most of all getting members to come back to the show. We will have to make this a money maker for all that are involved to make it work. If you at interested in sitting on the committee please contact chair Mark Faunce. Education committee is back and with great energy from our association. I want thank Emily Buck for chairing the committee. I am also happy to have Maine Cooperative Extension, SMCC, UMO all represented along with members from our association. I look forward to the programs in the coming year. In closing, I want to wish all of our members a successful season. Please let me know if I can help in any way.
Tom
