2015 Dance Council Scholarship Recipients
Tabatha Wooten Buster Cooper Tap Scholarship
Tabatha Wooten has been training at Li-Sher Dance Studio in Commerce, TX for 16 years, where she also helps teach classes. Tabatha performed with the Drawbacks Youth Tap Ensemble, and Rhythmic Souls Youth Residency, where she was invited to be on the Senior Performance Company. She has also been a mem- ber of DCNT’s Hoofin’ Crew, featured dancers at the National Tap Dance Celebration, for the last five years. Tabatha is attending Motor City Tap Fest this summer.
Akihiro Yoshimoto George Skibine Memorial Scholarship
Akihiro Yoshimoto began dancing at five years old after waiting for his sister in her dance classes. Since then, he has been training at the Ballet Academy of Texas and is also a member of the Ballet Ensemble of Texas. Recently, he had the opportunity to be the Nutcracker Prince in the company’s annual performance of The Nutcracker. This summer, Akihiro attended The HARID Conservatory 2015 Summer School.
Masumi Yoshimoto Denton City Contemporary Ballet Scholarship
Masumi Yoshimoto has been dancing since she was three years old. After starting out at recreational dance classes at the YMCA, Masumi now trains full time at the Ballet Academy of Texas, where she is in her 5th season with the Ballet Ensemble of Texas. Masumi attended the Boston Ballet School Summer Dance Program this summer.
Juliana Yu Suffolk Award
Juliana Yu has been studying ballet for over ten years. She currently trains at the Ballet Academy of Texas and is also part of the Ballet Ensemble of Texas. Juliana’s goal is to be attend the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and hopefully dance professionally or have a career that is linked to dance. This summer Juliana attended American Ballet Theatre’s New York inten- sive.
