from Corecell foam ½-inch strips covered with epoxy. The owner has been building her over the last couple of years and hopes to have her in the water this summer.
At Edgecomb Boat Works in Edge- comb they were scrambling to get boats ready and with the inclement weather they had this winter and spring felt they were a week or two behind. They have about 70 boats in storage and almost all are wood. This winter they replaced the forefoot and lower portion of the stem on a 32-foot S&S sailboat. They also replaced the cock- pit, put in new deck beams around the mast, and did some mast repairs.
Like a lot of yards on the coast they had a lot of engine work this winter. They
repowered a 23-foot Lyman. She had a Chrysler Crown and this was replaced with a Crusader and given a new exhaust system. A 37-foot Egg Harbor was in for a major cosmetic upgrade. They painted everything. Also two boats were given total elec- tronic upgrades.
Hodgdon Yacht Service on Southport
Island has just fi nished up replacing the keel on a 63-foot Deerfoot. They also redid her plumbing and wiring. Her rig was given upgrades by Maloney Rigging of Southport. The major work this winter was a lot of smaller jobs on their more than 225 storage customers, which kept them very busy. They will also get approximately another 70 boats stored by customers at their homes, of which some will need some degree of work done before they can be launched.

At Samoset Boat-
works in Boothbay has MIDDLE C. in the shop for repairs to house, washrails, trunk cabin top and cosmetics.
Just left was a Mus- sel Ridge 28, which was in for cosmetics, lobster tank repairs and annual maintenance. A Northern Bay 36 was in briefl y. They gel-coated the deck, made house repairs, and rewired
the electronics.
While MIDDLE C. is in the shop they will be working on the few storage custom- ers out in the yard.
Like all yards Johanson Boat Works in Rockland is working hard to get all their storage customers ready for the water. A Seguin 44 was in to have her deck
repainted. All the deck hardware was re- moved and rebedded and the brightwork was refi nished. She came in mid-November and was done early May. GRAYLING, a Bunker & Ellis 35, was repowered. She had a gasoline engine, which was switched over to a Yanmar die- sel. Now they are working on the strut and cosmetics. She will be going over mid-June. A Sabre 36 was in for her annual main- tenance, and also received new life-lines. A small powerboat was in due to elec- trical and fuel issues. Once these are solved they will be doing her annual maintenance. Launching has begun. Seven or eight are already over, and the rest will be in the next couple of months.
Rockport Marine in Rockport has two new builds underway and several major repair projects, which has kept them busy through the winter and spring. One of the new builds is a W-46, which is being built for a customer in New England. She was started this fall. Her cold moulded hull consists of four layers, two fore and aft and two diagonals. Presently they are

working on the deck and interior and she should be done shortly. There have been three W-46s built, and several years ago, one was destroyed by a battery fi re. This one will replace her.
The other new build is a 26-foot cen- tre-console powerboat, which was designed by Rockport Marine for a customer from Long Island Sound. She is powered with a 4-cylinder Volvo diesel.
There has been three repowers this win-
ter. One was on a Concordia, which saw her Westerbeke replaced with a Yanmar. Another Concordia came in for a bot- tom job, which included frames, fl oors and planks as needed. She also was repowered. This boat was in a collision at Nantucket, which necessitated the hull work. An Ohlson 41 was repowered. They removed her Perkins and replaced it with a Yanmar. They also reframed and replanked half of her bottom.
WIND ROSE, designed by Bruce King and built by Brion Rieff, was into be repowered. They replaced her Westerbeke with a Yanmar. A schooner, built by Concordia in 1940, came in for a new cabin house with raised panel interior.
Another bottom job was on an A. Neil- son sloop built by Paul Luke in 1965. The bottom job included fl oors, frame ends, fore foot and they added a water-maker. Over the last several years, work has been progressing on the sardine carrier, WILLIAM UNDERWOOD. This winter the deck framing, ceiling, steering and hydrau- lic systems, tanks and top timbers were put in. They are now working on the rubrails.
At Doug Hylan Boatbuilder in Brook- lin they are putting the fi nishing touches on a 26 foot 6 inch Bowler, which was designed by Doug for a customer from Rockland. Down forward she has berths, head and a counter. She will be power with a 60-hp Yamaha outboard, and should top out at 17 knots. She is scheduled to be launched the middle of June.

Up on the balcony they are building a Coquina cat yawl, also designed by Doug, for a customer from Texas. She is 17 feet in length and is based on Nathaneal Herres- hoff’s favorite daysailer. She is constructed of glued lap plywood and should be com- pleted early this summer. Early this winter they fi nished and launched a 34-foot centre console power- boat for a customer from Stuart, FL. She was designed by Doug and powered with twin 300-hp Yamaha outboards.
