On a trek up to Berwick, there is an in- teresting group of marine businesses work- ing together. The buildings are leased by IBH (Independent Boat Haulers) of Eliot and they rent to Warren Pond Boat Shop, Whistling Marine, Paul Giroux Rigging and Dumas Welding. At Warren Pond Boat Shop they have several projects underway. In the big shop is UTOPIA, a Bruno Stillman 42, which has been converted to a US Coast Guard inspect- ed vessel to be used between Portsmouth, NH and the Isle of Shoals. They redid her shelter, reworked the galley and rewired. An Oyster 41 was in for a new teak deck, repowered with a Westerbeke diesel, rewired and some rigging work. AUGUSTA – Southport Boats has com- pleted the fi rst hull of the highly anticipated 33TE model. The TE (Tournament Edition) was built as a response to demand for a 33’ Southport that offered the same ride and sea-keeping characteristics of the 33FE (Family Edition), but built for a “strictly fi shing” user profi le. The Southport TE model includes many of the same great features of the FE, but delivers a deck plan more appropriate for the serious fi sherman. The most noticeable difference is in the foredeck, where the wraparound seating of the FE is replaced
TAR, was in to be repowered. They also added a bow thruster, some interior and systems work, and a new rig. A Hinckley 48 had a teak veneer added to her cabin house sides. A Hinckley Bermuda 40 had some rig alterations made. They were adding a Super- wind 300 windmill to the mizzen mast. In another shop a Vicum 32 is receiv- ing a new electrical panel and a cosmetic upgrade.

The Southport 33FE was launched in the summer of 2014 and immediately became a brand best-seller: to date over a dozen have been built and delivered and the expectation is to reach 20+ by year’s end. Despite the popularity of the Family Edition there was a signifi cant demand for this new hull with a traditional fi shing boat layout, and thus the TE was born. “We knew the TE was the next logical step for the 33” added Robinson. “The FE is certainly no slouch when it comes to fi shing and will satisfy all but the most hardcore anglers. This new 33TE takes the center console fi shing boat to a new level”. The fi rst 33TE model left the Southport shop in Augusta in early April.

In 2003, a team of experienced boat builders, passionate fi shermen and offshore racing enthusiasts joined forces with the legendary C. Raymond Hunt Associates to develop a unique and revolutionary boat design focused on maximizing the power and performance available from modern outboards.
Southport’s was developed to utilize the weight of modern twin power outboards to provide a soft, dry ride, stable platform, and easy handling. The unique design of the hull allows the boat to jump up on plane with- out bow rise, delivers a surprisingly agile ride, and turns on a dime. Ask a Southport owner about the ride of their boat and you will hear repeated praise about its balance, responsiveness and superb handling – often summarized as “Simply Amazing”. In every Southport you’ll fi nd electrical systems designed in a yacht-like manner, scuppers that evacuate green water like a custom sportfi sh, rugged offshore T-tops and subtle comfort throughout the interior, all this with lines that refl ect some of the most beautiful products afl oat.
