through her veins because she feels the need to move every five years or so. “I just get that itch (to move),” she explains. She loves change and relishes taking on a new gardening project. When asked about the state of the garden when she moved

T

into her current home she says, “It was a messy garden. There was no definition between the garden and the grass. I removed a ton of crab grass, invasive plants and variegated grasses. The only thing I can’t take credit for are the cedars, they were gorgeous.”

erisa Gigiel has been moving throughout the city of Winnipeg leaving beautiful gardens in her wake. She jokes that she must have gypsy blood coursing

It has taken her five years to get the garden to where it

is today, and she still has plans to improve it. Last year she added the brick edging and planted Winnipeg Parks roses. They now reside with a weigela in the planter boxes she built out of garden ties against her two-tier deck. This year she is looking to add some Korean lilacs and has a fence renovation planned. Terisa is an enthusiastic gardener. “I’ll plant anything and

everything,” she says earnestly. “If I see a garden centre, I can’t just drive past. I have to stop and usually end up purchasing something. I’m an addict,” she laughs. Terisa, a retired hairdresser who now works with her husband, jokes that she may even need a second job to support her addiction.
