JEWELS’ GORGEOUS GEMS
SUMMERTIME IS OFFICIALLY HERE! Though, it seems like just a few days ago it was
the first day of spring... at least here in Southern California, summer feels like it’s already in full swing. The challenges of donning full drag and painting one’s face in 90 degree heat, as makeup runs down it, becomes the norm. I am officially offering a reward, for the first person to sell me a wig cap out of a “Sham WOW!” Or possibly, some of our more creative types might be able to rig up an exhaust fan inside a large “Dolly Parton-style” wig! A tell-tale sign of the spring break season, aside
from the gorgeous folks enjoying our beautiful sun- shine and beaches, is the huge assortment of busi- nesses in Long Beach who are supporting the 18th Annual Easter Walk. The main Easter Day walk in Long Beach isSunday, April 5. The kick off party and brunch will be held at 11 a.m. at Hamburger Mary’s and includes a special charity addition, of our wildly popular Brunchettes Drag Show. After brunch, the Broadway crawl begins at 1 p.m. at the Broadway Cocktail Lounge. Throughout the afternoon, we will be strolling from bar to bar along Broadway Street. You can catch performances and extra special raffles at the Falcon and Paradise. OurClosing Party begins at 7 p.m. at The Silver Fox on Redondo and 4th Street. Each year, the community is invited to join one of the craziest parades you will ever see: drag queens, kings, gay nuns, leather folk, fairies and more, stroll down the streets raising funds for the C.A.R.E. Program at St. Mary hospital! 2015’s efforts have been another banner year
for the fundraiser. Once again, every gay bar in the area has signed on to support the event. Wonderful

restaurants are getting into the game as well, like Steamed, The Paradise and Hamburger Mary’s. Hot Java coffeeshop, which of course, is one of my favor- ite places to spend the morning (which, for me, is typically around 1 p.m.), has been rocking out Easter Walk donation slips in full force. They have covered most of their walls and soon, they might even have to start covering the floor, as well. Rick White, commonly known as Sheeya Mann, the
founder of Easter Walk, is making the trip once again this year, from his home in New Orleans to join the festivities. I look forward to seeing another of Sheeya’s unbelievable “Bonnet” creations. They are always completely astounding and fabulous. For more information go to
easterwalk.com. One of our favorite RuPaul’s Drag Race entertainers
is returning once again onWednesday, April 15, to the Hamburger Mary’s stage. Latrice Royale, is an absolute joy to be around and is a huge hit with her audiences. If you haven’t had a chance to see her in person, I encourage all of you to make reservations well in advance, by calling 562.436.7900. “Wild Weds” is a 21+ weekly event and the show
begins at 10 p.m. If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at trivia, come early for dinner and win big with theGeeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at 8 p.m. For more information go to
hamburgermarys.com/longbeach I hope by now, many of you have been able to meet
the newly elected Empress of the International Imperial Court of Long Beach, Sah’shay! Empress Sah’shay invites everyone to join her on Sunday, April 19 for the Investiture Ceremony of the 44th Reign. The ceremony is themed, “The
Rise Of An Egyptian Empress” and kicks off at 4 p.m., at The Suite. For more information about the Imperial Court, go to long-

The LGBT Center Orange County, will be holding their annual Indigo Ball at the Lyon Air Museum in Santa Ana onSaturday, April 18 at 6 p.m. This annual event is world-class on every level and brings together the diverse O.C. LGBT community and its allies, along with the fabulous Kathy Najimy (see The Rage Monthly’s interview with her on page 24).
