RV OWNERS LIFESTYLE SEMINARS

For the 18th year in a row Okanagan College (OC) in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia, will be training RV owners and prospective owners on the ins and outs of the RV lifestyle.

In 1997 Al Cohoe, then head of the RV Service Technician Training program at OC saw that many RV owners didn’t understand how to get the full enjoyment from their RV.

Cohoe offered up a fun filled weekend packed with information tailored to RV owners and persons looking to get into the RV lifestyle. Courses relating to safety, maintenance, travelling and many other subjects were taught by experts in their respective field on the third weekend of June each year.

Some of the expert instructors are also college instructors covering subjects like propane safety, appliance maintenance, diesel maintenance and RV generators. Other subjects such as travelling to Mexico, Alaska, with pets, or RV travel insurance, boon docking and travel writing are taught by experts from around North America.

On June 19, 2015 the 18th RV Owners Lifestyle Seminars will start about 1pm with RV’s of all size, shape and vintage rolling into the campus parking lots. Dry camping onsite for the 4 days is encouraged during the seminars, and once

Saturday morning seminars begin with 4 sessions running simultaneously for 1 1/2 hours each. During each day there are up to 16 different seminar topics offered with enough variety to entertain everyone.

After an information packed day its back to the RV’s until the entertainment starts. Rain or shine the musical guests provide an evening of songs, jokes, dancing and plenty of laughs, which usually spills back to the campfires until the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday dawns with the second full day of information sessions covering 16 more topics building on the knowledge gained from Day One. Sunday is also dinner night, with meal preparation done by chefs from the OC culinary arts program. Smiles fill the room as the last piece of dessert is consumed and door prizes are drawn for.

Thanks to generous sponsors from throughout BC’s RV industry, prizes range from RV exterior sealant to Sani-dump app subscriptions and everything in between.

After more swapping stories in the campsite, it’s Monday and the final day of information sessions. The wrap up session ends early afternoon and RV’s start heading off into the sunset with a wealth of knowledge, new friends and a weekend of memories.

The 18th annual RV Owners Lifestyle Seminars are June 19 – 22 at Okanagan College in Kelowna, BC.
