Lalangue (www.lalangueparis. com) in Paris is based on the simple ethos that language learning is a process unique to everyone. The school’s highly trained teachers are attentive to each person and their individual needs, and offer carefully structured classes to maximise learning . The classes build strong foundations in French through grammar, vocabulary studies and pronunciation practice. There’s also a focus on French culture, with themed activities and daily conversation about the experience of staying in Paris. The courses are offered in very small groups, limited to six students, and last for a minimum of two weeks. You can either opt for 15 or 4 hours of classes per week – or even hour-long lessons, which can be scheduled at your convenience, as frequently as you wish. The prices range from €52 to €198, depending on the programme. There are numerous options when it comes to French language classes outside the City of Light. Eurocentres (www.eurocentres. com) offer classes in Amboise and

La Rochelle (as well as in Paris), covering general language skills and a range of diplomas. The language learning company also offers long-term ‘gap year’ classes for students on sabbatical, which span either a semester or a whole year. You can enrol on the ‘Open Choice’ programme, which allows you to choose up to four language schools and make the most of your freedom.

There are less studious options for those who want to improve their French but, fi rst and foremost, have a lot of fun. Accent Français (www.accentfrancais.com) in Montpellier runs ‘French culture and cuisine’ language courses that feature an exciting extra-curricular programme, including guided tours of the city plus excursions to Nîmes and Avignon. Language classes are interspersed with cooking lessons, wine tastings and other activities across the area, and lessons take place in a charming 19th-century building in Montpellier’s city centre. Whatever type of activity holiday appeals to you – from cooking to boating to hiking – you’ll be able to fi nd your niche in France! FT
