FUN: Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom

BASED on the much-loved TV show, Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom comes to Cardiff on Wednesday, April 8, and Thurs- day, April 9. Somewhere, hidden among

the thorny brambles is a little kingdom where everyone is very very small. Holly is a young fairy prin-

cess, who is still learning how to fly and her magic doesn’t always go quite according to plan. Her best friend, Ben the elf, doesn’t have wings and he doesn’t do magic, but he runs very fast and flies on the back of Gaston the ladybird. They live in the Little Kingdom, a tiny land where flower and grass rise high above them and every day is an adventure. Join Ben, Holly and their friends on this exciting, en- chanting and magical musical adventure packed full of games songs and laughter. The show will be at the New Theatre and tickets are on sale from £13.50 to £15.50, with special prices for children. To book visit newtheatrecardiff. co.uk or call 02920 878889.

FOLLOWING the success of last year’s festival, Wales Millennium Centre teams up with Southbank Centre once again to present WOW (Wom- en of the World) Caerdydd – a festival of free performances, workshops, a market place, networking opportunities and talks. Established to promote equality for women and girls, WOW festival celebrates achievements while also ex- ploring the obstacles women and girls still face in the UK and across the world. Taking place at Wales Mil- lennium Centre today and to- morrow, WOW Caerdydd will offer a varied programme of free events for all ages from speed mentoring to self-de- fence, jewellery and clothing making to a ‘be your own superhero’ workshop. While today is largely a schools- focused day of workshops, talks, a WOW market and inspiring speed mentoring sessions aimed at developing young people, activities to- morroware open to all.

Speed Mentoring The speed mentoring ses-

WALES Millennium Centre is to pre- sent a new version of Man to Man in March 2015, the first full in-house pro- duction under the new artistic direc- tion of Graeme Farrow. Translated and adapted by Alexandra

Wood from Manfred Karge’s master- piece Jacke wie Hose, the production will reimagine the one-woman show as a visceral and virtuosic piece of physi- cal theatre. After her husband dies, Ella Gericke adopts his identity and continueswork- ing his job as a crane operator in order to survive in Nazi Germany. Compromising her own identity for survival, Ella is plunged into a new masculine world of beer, schnapps and poker; a claustrophobic existence dom- inated by the fear of discovery and the changing face of authority in a volatile twentieth century Germany. Reworking the original German mas-

terpiece into an intimate and all-con- suming piece of physical theatre, Man to Man confronts the horrors of World WarTwo from a unique and deeply per- sonal perspective. Written by up-and-coming young

playwright, Alexandra Wood, and star- ring MargaretAnnBain as Ella,Manto Man is directed by Bruce Guthrie, (As- sociate Director for Sam Mendes on his world tour of Richard III, director of Twelfth Night and Othello, for the Sin- gapore Repertory Theatre), alongside a stellar creative team including Scott Graham of leading physical theatre company Frantic Assembly. Manfred Karge’s original version

of the play, Jacke wie Hose, was first staged at the Scgauspeilhaus Bocehum in 1982. It was first translated by An- thony Vivas and performed in the UK under the English title Man to Man, with Tilda Swinton playing the role of Ella Gericke. Man to Man is part of WOW Caerdy-

dd, a festival celebrating, provoking and expressing female achievements, struggles and future challenges taking place in March 2015. Man to Man is at Wales Millennium Centre from today until March 27. Tickets are priced at £14, preview, £9. For more information and to book visit wmc.org.uk or call the box office: 02920 636464.

been proving for the last four years, WOW festival is a fan- tastic way to do this and I’m extremely pleased that the Centre has been able to link up with the Southbank Cen- tre’s flagship event for the second year running to pre- sent our ownWOWCaerdydd. Once again, this year’s festi- val is free, open to all and will offer something for everyone, men and women, girls and boys.” Since launching at the Southbank Centre in 2011, WOW festival has grown

into a global festival, tak- ing place in cities including Baltimore, USA and Sydney, Australia as part of the Syd- ney Writers Festival. In 2013 the first WOW fes-

tival in the UK outside of London took place in Derry- Londonderry as part of the City of Culture, followed by the first WOW Caerdydd in 2014, along with WOWCam- bridge. WOW Caerdydd takes place at Wales Millennium Centre. See: wmc.org.uk/ wow
