Felixstowe gets an Oscar


The world’s largest container ship, the MSC Oscar made its maiden call in Felixstowe on 9 March on the line’s new east-west trade between Asia and Europe. The 19,224teu vessel is the first of seven similar sized ships that will be delivered to MSC in 2015.


Is the groupage industry ready to go ‘E’?


A German IT company is set to go live with an online platform for international groupage networks between 15 March and 10 April - which it says could revolutionise the industry in Europe. It aims to allow freight forwarders to create their own intra-European groupage networks by using the resources of transport operators that have signed up to the system – but without the expensive overheads or need to co-load with rivals usually involved in starting groupage services from scratch. Colo21’s E-Groupage platform, first unveiled towards the end of last year (FBJ 7 2014, page 3) has been likened to a car-sharing agency for groupage freight, bringing together suppliers, forwarders

and Fiege executive Jörg Frommeyer and Andre Probst, owner of IT consultants alphaQuest. From 15 March, forwarders will be able to create their own individual


groupage networks and sell consignments to forwarders; then, from 10 April, shippers will be able to see the networks created and be able to compare services. By the end of February, over 100 distribution locations had been loaded onto the system with over 600 more in the pipeline, says Colo21 chairman, Jörg Frommeyer. The target is 150 transport companies
