BY NT STAFF WOMAN OF DISTINCTION:

ELYSE MUELLER DIVISION ADMINISTRATOR AT THE FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY ADMINISTRATION, NEBRASKA DIVISION OFFICE, U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Tis year’s nominee is a result of her

interest in developing a “cooperative” enforcement model with our carriers in the state. Her career with this Agency in Nebraska began as a field carrier auditor I believe over 20 years ago. In this role she was known as a tough, but fair officer that was held in high esteem. As Nebraska’s State Director for the past 15 or so years, she has been a very active and engaged regulator that has not only helped us personally, but has also encouraged her staff to serve as volunteers at our Truck Driving Championships. In addition, she has always been willing

to speak at our conventions, safety councils, and joint town hall meetings when changes were about to occur. Her philosophy of being a partner in highway safety with us by committing to educate and prevent enforcement and accidents has helped foster a very cooperative partnership between her agency and our association members. We have been very fortunate as a state to have her leadership style, instead of one that promotes distrust and an adversarial position with our industry. Tis attitude, is quite uncommon in other states when the conversation comes up with other Associations in other areas of the nation.

Te members that have nominated her this

year speak very highly of her common sense, but very professional approach to her work as an enforcement agency. It is my distinct pleasure and honor to

award Elyse Mueller, Division Administrator at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Nebraska Division Office, U.S. Department of Transportation, as the 2014 Nebraska Trucking Woman of Distinction!

JAMES E. RYAN GOLDEN DEEDS

TOMPIRNIE GRAND ISLAND EXPRESS Te James E. Ryan Golden Deeds award

was named after Jim Ryan, an attorney and lobbyist for the Nebraska Trucking Association. He was smart, droll, quiet,

thoughtful, generous and a loyal friend to the trucking industry for all of his years. When he died, his estate plan included the largest single gift ever received by the Nebraska Trucking Foundation. And this is a guy who never owned a single truck. It’s that kind of character and loyalty we honor when we choose to recognize someone with the award named after Jim Ryan. Tis year’s awardee’s family has been long

time leaders and supporters of the Nebraska Trucking Association and the trucking industry in Nebraska. He has served in many leadership positions within the Grand Island/ Hall county community, as well as a board member, past chairman of your Association, and has not only served a number of years as a trustee/president of the Nebraska Trucking Foundation, but he and his family have made substantial personal contributions in endowed
