Welcome
and Good Morning Friendly faces on Sunday set the tone for FPCA’s ministry BY REBECCA HANSON, ELDER FOR CONNECTIONS
At First Presbyterian, we’ve always considered it important that people who come through our doors for Sunday services are greeted by a friendly face, a warm welcome, and a helping spirit.
Part of the reason is that every person’s presence is a gift from God—especially if they’re new and don’t know what to expect but are motivated to see what we’re about. (See box for more thoughts about the importance of visitors.)
We’ve recently become even more intentional about viewing the connections that people make with the church—beginning with first impressions—to be a vital ministry that extends God’s grace and lives God’s love.

If you’ve been part of the story unfolding at FPCA, you’ve noticed an important color in our hallways and worship spaces: the color of blue. Blue shirts are worn by many members of FPCA’s Connections teams. Connections Ministry is the name of the umbrella ministry area that coordinates, plans, and provides resources to teams that focus on Sunday morning guest and member experiences. Tese include hospitality (beverage service), traditional service ushers, alternative worship greeters, a welcome team that staffs outside doors, post-Sunday follow-up, and membership.
