• Peter Laurie has been appointed as the new head of client relations at Elcot Publications. Laurie will strengthen links with key clients; develop new areas of business; and work with sponsors on The Business Magazine‘s lists and awards campaigns. A former business founder and owner, Laurie has worked in-house at a top City firm, and latterly has run his own consultancy practice. He has extensive knowledge of the professionals market, and has worked in both IT and finance in the SME sector. As a former professional yachtsman, racing ocean- going yachts globally, Laurie is a consummate team player, and strengthens Elcot‘s operation at a time of sustained growth.


• On March 31, Trethowans‘ head of litigation services group Chris Whiteley (left) becomes managing partner, while Simon Rhodes (right) moves to senior partner. Whiteley has enjoyed a long career at Trethowans and, in addition to his litigation role, has been appointed by the Court of Protection to act as a professional deputy to manage the property and financial affairs of vulnerable adults. Two years ago he was appointed as a deputy district judge by the Lord Chancellor. Paying tribute to Rhodes, Whiteley said: “Simon has done a terrific job at the helm to take us to the forefront of legal practices in the south, and has provided us with a superb platform from which to move further forward.“ As well as his duties as senior partner, Rhodes will return as full-time employment partner and will continue with his leadership of Future Southampton and being a board member on the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.


• Humphries Kirk solicitors has welcomed experienced private client solicitor Ann Corke to partnership in the firm. Corke read law at Bristol University, trained in London and boasts more than 30 years‘ legal experience. Throughout her career she has focused on acting for families with issues such as succession planning, administration of estates and wills. She also joins the Humphries Kirk international network, which includes a worldwide group of legal and business advisers. Corke is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and of the Law Society‘s private client section.


• The Haskins Garden Centre at West End has a new general manager. Peter Callaway from Hedge End, who joined the business in 2011 as assistant manager, has been promoted to head the team of 140 full and part-time retail and catering staff. Prior to joining Haskins, Callaway held management roles with Harveys in Portsmouth, B&Q at various stores and ASDA at Bournemouth‘s Castlepoint Shopping Park.


• Creative director Simon Warren has been appointed to the board of directors at Idealogy, indicating that the company‘s business plan for 2015 is gathering momentum. Warren joined Idealogy in September 2012 as retail and brand consultant and was promoted to creative director in November 2013. Previously he held the position of creative director at action sports-lifestyle brand Animal, and formed part of the senior management team which guided the company from its inception in 1987 to a £60-million-plus revenue business. Warren brings his skills and powerful B2C network to the next phase of Idealogy‘s ‘post 25 year‘ development.

• Marie Nayaka has joined the team at communications agency In The Bag PR as the company‘s social strategist. Nayaka has worked as a social media consultant for many years with vibrant and inspirational brands from around the world, and has built up a vast understanding of how social media can work for different businesses. She joins In The Bag PR to offer insight into the world of social media and will work with the company‘s clients to create solid, strategic and integrated campaigns. She commented: “I have worked with In The Bag PR on a project basis and have always been impressed with their innovative approach, so when the opportunity arose for me to join on a full-time basis I knew it was right.“


• The Bournemouth Property Association (BPA), with over 300 supporters based in the Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton and Christchurch areas, has voted in its new officers. Andrew Singleton (pictured) of Inspire Accountants takes over the role of chairman. The roles of vice chairman will be held by Alexandra Eaton of AE Marketing Solutions and Richard Mussell of The Rund Partnership, while Roger Wareham of Saffrey Champness becomes treasurer.
