Project Griffin in Europe French delegation look into Griffin

R

ecently Graham Bassett (Chairman of Project Griffin London Board), along with

colleagues Don Randall, MBE (Chair, Project Griffin Executive Board) and Ian Mansfield, MBE (recently retired from City of London Police), hosted a French delegation at the Bank of England.

Nicholas Le Saux CPP (ASIS Regional Vice President) instigated the visit to explore the potential benefits and opportunities that Project Griffin could bring to Paris. The talks were deemed a resounding success with a future visit planned in early 2015 to progress a pilot scheme in a Parisian suburb.

s many of you will know, Ian Mansfield, MBE retired from the City of London

Police recently after a distinguished career since joining the force in 1982.

Often referred to by many as Mr Griffin, Ian was at the forefront of implementing and delivering Project Griffin to the City of London business community and private security sector since its inception 10 years ago.

During his tenure Ian visited 32 UK police forces to deliver the principles of Project Griffin to senior officers and help them set up and run Project Griffin Awareness Days in their force areas.

With passport at the ready Ian also helped facilitate Project Griffin internationally, with Canada, USA, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong being examples of countries that have adopted the concept.

Earlier this year Ian was awarded an MBE in recognition of his tireless work and contribution to Project Griffin and those involved in his team.

Possible scheme for the Netherlands

A few weeks after meeting with our guests from France, Lucien Stopler from the Netherlands was also hosted at the Bank of England to discuss the potential of a pilot scheme in the Netherlands. Lucien works closely with the Dutch Government, Police Force and business community to facilitate closer links and co-operation.

Lucien attended the City of London Police Project Griffin Awareness Day at Wood Street and spent time with Alex Williams (CoLP) visiting Project Griffin sites in the City.

A successful couple of days and we look forward to supporting the next stage of development for a pilot scheme in the Netherlands.

Ian has not quite hung up his boots and has now joined a City corporate business where they will no doubt benefit from his years of experience as a Counter Terrorism Advisor in the City of London Police (and some may say his humour!)

On behalf of everyone at City Security magazine, its readers and I’m sure everyone that knows Ian, we would like to thank him for all that he has done and wish him all the very best in his new career. Graham Bassett

by Sir David Veness, the high rank of the speakers was reflected in the quality and diversity of the subjects, including briefings by Commander Simon Bray, Metropolitan Police Service, Det. Ch. Supt Scott Wilson, NaCTSO, and Sir David Wootton, Chair of the CSSC Trustees.

The CSSC Annual Charity Celebration Dinner was held in October 2014 at The Grange City Hotel, in the City of London. The event was a great success and was attended by over 280 VIPs and Industry Sector Leaders. The main speakers were Commander Simon Bray from the Metropolitan Police and Don Randall, MBE, Vice chairman CSSC.

CSSC and the Counter Terrorism Awareness Week

NaCTSO chose the CSSC initiative as the primary communication method during the recent Counter Terrorism Awareness Week in November 2014.

“Everyone has a role to play in keeping the UK safe from terrorists” was the key message of this initiative. This highlights the importance of people remaining vigilant and taking all available measures to reduce their risk of becoming a target of a terrorist attack.

The week saw a range of activity, focusing on five key areas: crowded places, transport hubs, preventing violent extremism, terrorist financing, and the tools that terrorists need to operate, with particular emphasis on the value of partnership between the police, businesses, government and the general public. 
