IN OUR DAYCARES A former Jersey City daycare

worker who pleaded guilty to endan- gering the welfare of children and simple assault earlier this year will be sentenced today in a Hudson County courtroom, authorities said. Ann Bactawar pleaded guilty

Sept. 3 to the charges stemming from an April 2013 incident at a Jersey City daycare center, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino said.

On April 30, 2013, Bactawar

was charged with two counts of en- dangering the welfare of a child and two counts of child abuse after she was caught on tape abusing two chil- dren at Sunnyside Academy in Port Liberte, authorities said. The investigation into the day-

care center began when parents pick- ing up their 19-month-old son the day before discovered that the boy's face was bruised and his lip swollen. The boy's father was then shown vid- eo that he says showed Bactawar up- ending the boy from a box he was standing on.

14 PHF MAGAZINE Video footage also showed a se-

cond child, a 16-month-old boy, being abused by Bactawar, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Debra Simon said at the time. Bactawar, who was 26 at the

time of her arrest, will be sentenced by Judge Martha Royster, authorities said. She was the first of four employ- ees of the daycare center who were charged with similar offenses. Young Cha, 29, of Belleville,

Annette Rocker, 69, of Palisades Park, and Sutapa Aditya, 41, of Jersey City, were all charged with child abuse for incidents authorities say occurred in- side the center. Cha was charged with slapping a

17-month-old boy on May 9, 2013. Rocker was charged with hitting and slapping a 2-year-old two weeks later, and Aditya was charged last week with pulling a 2-year-old boy across the floor by his hair, authorities said.
