EDITORIAL Eat what you grow
den. This is a trend that seems to spring from two places; concern for our health and a wish to avoid all the pesticides and other chemicals that commercial growers pour onto their crops, and an interest in eating locally available foods for their better nutrition, taste and without the evils of fac- tory foods.
T One major trend is our growing understanding of how to farm intensively in con-
tainers, so that even the tiniest garden patch can produce a crop of carrots, potatoes, and even corn. Indeed, carrots and potatoes are more prolific in containers and you don’t have to worry about crop rotation: just renew the soil.
We’ve become Internet and social media savvy!
It’s been a while coming, but we have finally caught up with the world and are becoming more and more in tune with your interest in the Internet and social media. Guess what?! I actually have a Twitter account and “tweet” several times a week about garden tips, garden observations and other such things. If you follow me at GardeningCanuck, I’ll follow you back and we can swap garden stuff. Ontario Gardener also has a Facebook page where we post all sorts of gardening advice and photos and you can also ask questions. I have also started a blog, which I invite you to visit at gardeningcanuck@word-
press.com. I am receiving a growing number of visitors from around the world. The Gardener on CJOB and our upcoming TV show
Did you know that I have hosted a weekly radio show in Winnipeg for the past 10 years? If you’d like to tune in, just go to
CJOB.com and it runs at 8:00 a.m. CST. Thank you for all your loyalty and support. Please remember to mention us to a friend to help us grow our subscriber base.
