Another gain for London Gateway NEWS\\\ Mediterranean Shipping

Company (MSC) is to switch its South Africa to UK/Northwest Europe service from Felixstowe to DP World London Gateway from December. The first MSC vessel on the new rotation will be the MSC Rita, due to arrive on 7 December. The Europe/South Africa

SAECS consortium was the first service to select London Gateway when it opened to regular traffic a year ago. DP World London Gateway has also been chosen by Hamburg Süd as the UK call for a new service between North Europe and Mexico, Central America and Colombia. The first ship to call on this weekly, fixed-day

confirmed a weekly call into the port as part of its reconfigured Europe-Middle East/India (IMEX) services, which will join the already established EPIC service at the new port. The IMEX Sling 1, starting in November, will be served by eight 5,500-6,500 TEU vessels, covering cover key ports in North Europe, the Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf, Pakistan and India West Coast. spokesman said that with two of a projected six berths open,

the port was filling up although there was still capacity spare for another major operator, such as an Asia/Europe line. Attracting such a carrier would though probably be the trigger to start work on the third berth. He pointed out that 19 of the

Transport already provides trucks at London Gateway but is soon expected to announce setting up a permanent base at the port. At the same time, rail operator DB Schenker is also believed to be poised to announce new services from the port. DP World London Gateway Simon Moore summarised:
