Rebuild for recycled fibre line at Varhaus mill in Finland

S

tora Enso is planning to rebuild a fibreline, evaporation plant, recausticizing plant,

recovery boiler, and recycled fibre plant as part of its conversion of a fine paper line to a containerboard machine at its Varkaus pulp mill in Finland. The project also involves an

increase in capacity and energy efficiency at the mill and is expected to be completed at the end of 2015. The Andritz project includes: • Conversion of the fibreline to produce high-Kappa unbleached

evaporator units, and installation of a new methanol liquefaction system

pulp, including modernization of cooking, brown stock washing, and screening systems, as well as delivery of a new blowline and new

reject refiners • Supply of two new evaporator units, replacement of the existing evaporator lamellas in two

Filtration performance improved at Weig Karton in Germany

Board manufacturer Weig Karton in Mayen, Germany, recently had its third-party disc filter rebuilt by Voith, since when it has experienced significant improvements in filtrate values, along with demonstrably lower maintenance costs. The mill used Voith disc filter

technology, which includes BaglessPlus disc filter sectors and

a new filtrate valve, following a similar upgrade two years ago. BaglessPlus disc filter sectors made from corrugated stainless steel increase capacity by up to 20 per cent, while improving filtrate quality. Measurements of filtrate quality have recorded 180 ppm in the clear filtrate and 60 ppm in the super-clear filtrate. Since the high filtrate

Tenth Andritz tissue machine for Hengan Group

Hengan Group, one of the leading producers of hygiene and sanitary products in China, has started up its PM17 tissue machine at the Changde mill. The tenth machine to be supplied by Andritz to the Hengan group, it comprises a

PrimeLine W8 with a design speed of 2,000 metres per minute and a width of 5.6 m. The project also included an 18ft-diameter steel Yankee, the complete stock preparation plant, and the automation system.

quality will remain unchanged during the entire lifecycle of the BaglessPlus sectors, ranging from 10 to 20 years, large quantities of fresh water can be saved. Also, BaglessPlus disk filter sectors are maintenance free, with holes in filter bags no longer being an issue. The new filtrate valve ensures a consistently high vacuum and

• Supply of a new LimeDry lime mud disc filter for the recausticizing plant, which will improve cleanliness and the working environment at the plant • Rebuild of the complete recycled fibre plant, including modernization of the FiberFlow drum pulper and coarse screening plant, as well as delivery of a new screw press • Replacement of the boiler bank tubes in the recovery boiler and installation of a new concentrated non-condensable gas burner.

further ensures the high filtrate quality. The rebuild switched from plain to roller bearings for the new central shaft. In addition, the disc filter was equipped with new knock-off and cleaning spray pipes featuring patented nozzles. The upgraded disc filter now

replaces four drum thickeners, which had become susceptible to failure due to high screen wear. The Mayen mill of Moritz J Weig GmbH & Co has yearly capacity for 620,000 metric tons of board produced from recovered paper.

A second Andritz machine for Hebei Yihoucheng

Following successful start-up of Hebei Yihoucheng Commodity’s TM1 tissue machine, the Chinese sanitary-paper manufacturer has ordered another from Andritz. The second PrimeLineCOMPACT II tissue

machine with a 3.66m-diameter steel Yankee has a design speed of 1,600 m/min and a width of 2.85 m. Andritz will also supply the complete stock preparation plant, automation, and drives. Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2015.
