ISSUE 53 – AUTUMN 2014 CITY®

City Security – The magazine that promotes security issues nationwide

Today, more than ever, the most important issue is global security

ith the recent news that the threat level has increased to Severe, the importance of global security to any business, whether an international giant or a local

shop, is ever more apparent. In this our autumn edition, we have a timely focus on the challenges posed by international events for security professionals.

On the flipside, with the UK’s share of the world security market still relatively small, we explore the demand for British-made security products and services and how businesses can grow their presence in the coming years.

We begin with a discussion on the Middle East from Jeff Little and the possibility of it moving towards a failed region status. This is coupled with an update on the threat level and the immediate actions that UK business should consider.

With these themes in mind, we focus on taking a strategic approach to resilience, risk and security, including a piece from Jason Brown, a National Security Director, providing an insight into the Australian approach. Additionally, Rowena Fell, of Merk Sharp and Dohme, presents her ideas on the insider threat and how to develop a global approach to tackling it

We feature an interview with Michael J. Stack, CEO of ASIS, who provides an insight into his views on the role of the security professional and priorities for those responsible for delivering the security function in an organisation.

Views on how the security industry is responding to the current challenges include a piece from Bob Forsyth from Mitie, who believes that UK companies are increasingly looking at different ways of working. While Kenneth Larsen from Securitas argues that UK security needs to adopt a more imaginative approach.

Peter French summarises the findings of the annual European salary survey, including a look at what keeps your CEO awake at night, and poses the question, “Are you aligned or interwoven within your corporate structure?”

As Ian Mansfield, MBE, retires from the City of London Police and also from his position on the City Security magazine Editorial Committee, we would like to express our deep thanks for his commitment, enthusiasm and expertise, not only to the magazine, but also to Project Griffin, policing and counter terrorism.

We welcome Detective Superintendent Paul Barnard and PC Alexander Williams from the City of London Police to our Editorial Board; their wealth of knowledge and experience will be invaluable in ensuring that our articles are always of the highest quality and relevance to our readers.
