“…it is part of La Silla’s philosophy to get their horses to top riders.”

Thermal and Ocala, this pair collected two Grand Prix wins and two second places, earning over $477,000 prize money. From Florida, they went on to Europe this summer for the World Cup Final. The fiery mare represents French

and German bloodlines. She is sired by Chapultepec La Silla (Laudanum xx x Almé), who was himself a win- ning jumper and whose dam’s lineage was Selle Français and Hanoverian. Chapultepec La Silla has several other young jumpers competing in Europe. Chela’s dam was Elisa la Silla

(Tláloc La Silla x Polydor). Tláloc La Silla (Quidam de Revel x Foudre de Guerre) competed in the 2000 Olym- pic Games and the 2002 World Eques- trian Games. He has also sired the Grand Prix jumpers HH Rebozo and Bristol. Santiago Diaz of Colombia has the 2006 gelding Tizimin La Silla (Tláloc La Silla x Polydor), who competed at Wellington in 2014. Tláloc La Silla is also damsire of Toluca LS (Montebello la Silla x Tláloc la Silla) a top amateur-owner jumper ridden by Alison Cooney.

Top Prospects to A-List Riders Simon explains a goal of La Silla. “I love Chela LS, but it is part of La Silla’s philosophy to get their horses to top riders. Ashlee was a perfect match for her. We are always happy to see horses at the top level. I saw immediately they would be very successful together.”

Singular LS La Silla (Chapultepec La Silla x Stakka-

to) found his home with three-time Olympian Maria Gretzer of Sweden. “For quite a few years I was rid- ing young horses for Mr. Romo of La Silla Stud, two to four horses at a time,” Maria explains. “I took on Singular LS La Silla when he was just four years old, rode him for La Silla for half a year, and said to myself, ‘It is one of the best young horses I have had in my stable.’ And I did have a few good ones...” Maria made an offer to buy the 2006 stallion, and her mother generous-

ly contributed to the purchase. “So she owns one-third of Singular. Singular is my ‘dream horse,’ fantastic to work and jump as a youngster.” She went to train with Germany’s Marcus Ehning, and reports that Mar- cus liked the stallion. “I believed in his extreme quality when I had him for a few months,” says Maria. “Marcus believed it too after seeing him train one day.” Marcus, who is currently ranked fourth in the Longines rankings, is now competing Singular in Grand Prix, with good results so far this spring.
