ROSEMONT, THE DESTINATION FOR DINING, ENTERTAINMENT & SHOPPING

T

he area by O’Hare International Airport is a great place to be during this time of year, thanks to all the entertainment, dining and activity options in the village of Rosemont. This fall and winter, the options are better than ever – a newly re-vamped haunted house, enhanced winter seasonal events, shows, theater, concerts, movies, dining excitement, and world-class shopping are available all within a few hundred feet of each other.

In October, the Hofbrauhaus Chicago hosts Oktoberfest all month long. This event, modeled after the famous German tradition, features authentic Bavarian entertainment, an Oktoberfestbier brewed with a centuries-old method, daily food specials, and keg tapping ceremonies on Fridays manned by celebrities. Entertainment includes a German bugle corps, “Oompah” bands from Europe, a German Dirndl fashion show and traditional dancers. Hofbrauhaus will also sell cinnamon-sugar roasted nuts (made on site) Thursday-Sunday evenings, and have Masskrugstemmen contests (stein-holding competitions) on Saturdays and Sunday nights. Also in the fall, “Disturbia: Screams in the Park” runs through 11/1. This immersive haunted house combines the sets and interactivity of an award- winning previous haunted house, Disturbia Torment of Fears in Addison, with Rosemont’s Screams in the Park. The result is being billed as the ultimate horror experience – complete with new characters, new scares and a remodeled floor plan – in which guests travel down the unpredictable halls of pure evil. General admission costs $25. The fun doesn’t end with fall. The

village’s new “Frozemont” event features holiday lights, ice skating and winter tubing. A tree-lighting celebration takes place on Friday, 11/28; the ice rink opens that day and runs through 1/4/15. Ice skating is free, but rentals cost $8. A snow hill, Polar Peak, will open 12/13 at noon for tubing. Check the website for pricing and open hours. But, if you’d rather stay indoors, we can’t blame you. Rosemont is also home to some popular entertainment venues, including Rosemont Theatre and Allstate Arena. The schedule at the Rosemont Theatre this season includes Yo Gabba Gabba! Live on 10/18, Ana Gabriel on 10/19, Bill Cosby on 11/15, Seinfeld 11/21, the Fresh Beat

Band on 11/29, LITTLE BIG TOWN on 12/5, Johnny Mathis on 12/6, Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker on 12/7, Gabriel Iglesias on 12/11, and Mannheim Steamroller Christmas on 12/20. The Allstate Arena, a large concert venue that also serves as the home arena for the Chicago Wolves (hockey) and the DePaul Blue Demons (college basketball), plays host to Enrique Iglesias (bailando!) & Pitbull on 10/3, the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus: Legends on 11/6-11/16, Slipknot on 11/28, Andrea Bocelli on 12/13 and the Trans Siberian Orchestra 12/27.

At the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, public shows include The Fanatics Sports Spectacular on 11/21-11/23, Muscle Cars and Corvette Nationals on 11/22-11/23, the Skokie Valley Kennel Club on 12/5-12/7, and the International Gem & Jewelry Show on 12/12-12/14.

Additional dining entertainment options in the area are very conveniently located close to the airport and the convention center. These include Muvico, a movie venue with theater dining; Zanies Comedy Club; iFLY indoor skydiving; and Kings Lanes, Lounge & Sports.
