Patty’s Plum was discovered by accident growing in a compost heap belonging to Patricia Morrow of Somerset, England. It is an Oriental poppy hybrid.

The Himalayan blue poppy

The double poppy is a hybrid of Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy. This one is Papaver laciniatum. Shirley poppies can also be doubles.

the genus Meconopsis (Greek: mekon poppy, opsis like). Meconopsis grandis or Meconopsis betonicifolia is the one with the clear blue petals that send a love arrow straight to the heart, and many people want badly to grow this partial shade lover. It is notoriously difficult to cultivate though, unless it finds the perfect spot with moist, rich, lime-free soil. Although it is listed as hardy to zone 6 to 8, I have seen in growing in a sheltered zone 3 garden.
